Florida has earned a heartbreaking distinction as the state with the highest number of deadly child drownings in the nation. Last year alone, 110 children lost their lives to drowning in Florida, and this year is already on track to surpass that grim statistic. Water safety education and constant supervision are crucial to preventing these tragedies in Florida and swim lessons reduce the risk by 88%!

FREE swim safety webinar on February 3rd at 12PM that will teach drowning prevention strategies and provide practical tools families can use at home.

Hosted by UWCF Success By 6, Swim Dynamic and Swim Angelfish, global leaders in adaptive aquatics.

95% of students with disabilities attend public schools. When public education works, it can change the course of someone’s life.

As a former special education student, Kristen knows firsthand how a strong public education can shape a person’s future. She credits her Individualized Education Program (IEP) team and family for helping her meet her goals and graduate high school, something that might not have been possible without that support.

School didn’t just help Kristen graduate. It helped her learn how to advocate for herself; a skill she still uses today.

Now, as an adult, Kristen advocates for reinvesting in public education so that every student, with or without disabilities, has the same opportunity to succeed.

“This is not the time to take money from public schools, but rather to put more money into public schools and services so all students have the opportunity to achieve their goals and reach their full potential, like I was given.”

Kristen’s story is a reminder of what’s at stake when public schools and special education services are underfunded. Support in school doesn’t just help students get through the day. It helps shape their futures.

1 in 4 Americans have a disability. The language used about us MATTERS. It matters to us and to our families, caregivers, siblings, friends, and neighbors. The R-word isn’t a punchline—it’s harmful.

When we choose respect over the R-word, we create a world where everyone is seen, heard, and valued.

Respect is no joke, and it’s time we started treating it that way.
