We had a great meeting today sharing our service dog airport training experience with another organization that supports Veterans with Service dogs. We may do training a little differently, but we have one mission to help our Veterans regain their independence and confidence. 🐕‍🦺🇺🇸❤️

Thank you Sandra for being a most gracious host today! We look forward to seeing more service dog airport training classes at this wonderful airport! ✈️ 🐕‍🦺🇺🇸

Rob will also be the guest speaker at the Greenville Veterans Day Event on 11/11 at 11 am at the Town Commons. The theme is ‘No Soldier Left Behind’. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Today, Trainer Bill was surprised with a wonderful mosaic diamond artwork gift made by Christina. She used many, many very small beads to create this beautiful piece. Christina is an Army Veteran who trains with her dog Sapphire. She understands the love and motivation that a dog can give.

We appreciate Christina’s talent, compassion and generosity. We will proudly display this wonderful gift in our new training center!

The Dog Who Changed Everything

Before there was a Paws of War Eastern North Carolina…

Before there were Veterans graduating with service dogs…

Before there were community partnerships…

Before there were plans for a permanent Training Center…

There was Winnie.

Two days before Christmas 2018, Winnie was abandoned outside an animal shelter.

She had endured a difficult life.

She had been overbred.

Her ears had been cut.

She had broken teeth.

She suffered from fleas and neglect.

Yet someone saw beyond her condition.

Our veterinarian believed Winnie deserved another chance.

Instead of returning her to the shelter, she cared for Winnie at the animal hospital, where Winnie quietly watched over the clinic cats while she healed.

At the same time, Bill was grieving the sudden loss of his beloved dog, Lady.

Knowing both Winnie and Bill, our veterinarian believed they needed one another.

She was right.

In February 2019, Bill met Winnie.

Neither of them knew that meeting would one day change countless lives.

Winnie became Bill’s Service Dog and later a certified Therapy Dog.

She loved to train.

She loved to learn.

Most of all…

She loved people.

One training class became another.

Soon Bill was volunteering.

Then he became a trainer.

Looking back today, we realize Winnie wasn’t simply part of our story.

She was the beginning of it.
