CRIME STOPPERS: VEHICLE BREAK-INS:
Before we discuss this week’s case, we want to highlight how a Craven County Crime Stoppers tip recently helped investigators make an arrest.

On August 8, the Craven County Sheriff's Office received a tip concerning the s*xual extortion of an adult female. That tip led investigators to identify and arrest 39-year-old registered s*x offender Richard Michael Haas of New Bern.
Haas has been charged with felony s*xual extortion of an adult and cyberstalking and is being held without bond.

This case is another example of how one Crime Stoppers tip can make a difference.

Now, the Craven County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect wanted for questioning in connection with multiple vehicle break-ins.

These incidents occurred in the Hunter Ridge subdivision, located off Brices Creek Road in New Bern.

Investigators are asking everyone to carefully review the photographs of the suspect and the clothing being worn. If you recognize this individual or have information that could assist investigators, please contact the Craven County Sheriff’s Office at 252-636-6620 or Craven County Communications at 252-633-2357.

Craven County Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for information leading to the suspect’s arrest.

To remain completely anonymous, submit your tip through the Craven County Crime Stoppers app by visiting p3tips.com/986.

You never have to give your name, and you could be eligible for a cash reward. You can also go to our Facebook and Instagram pages for more details.

Remember: Your information, no matter how small, could help investigators solve this case.

This week on Craven County Crime Stoppers, the City of New Bern, NC Police Department needs your help to solve a senseless act of violence that took the life of an 18-year-old in our community.

Detectives are actively investigating a fatal shooting directly linked to gang violence, and we need your help to bring those responsible to justice.

On Friday night, May 23rd, around 11:15 p.m., New Bern police received a ShotSpotter alert for gunfire near Queen Anne Lane. Officers arrived and found several shell casings, but no victims at that scene.

Just two minutes later, a 911 call reported a second shooting nearby at McKinley Avenue and Charles Street.

Officers and EMS arrived to find 18-year-old Khalil Grant suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to CarolinaEast Medical Center, but tragically, he died from his injuries.

Detectives believe the McKinley Avenue shooting was a targeted attack and are looking into a connection between both crime scenes. Police know that Khalil Grant had been targeted in previous gang-related incidents in the Pembroke area, and law enforcement is working tirelessly to stop this violence.

But detectives cannot do this alone. We need witness accounts and information from anyone who knows what happened that night.

We are asking you to be a Partner in Policing. If you saw anything near Queen Anne Lane or McKinley Avenue on the night of May 23rd, or if you have details on gang activity in the area, please step up.

Call the New Bern Police TIPS line at (252) 636-5034, or submit your tip anonymously by using the Craven County Crime Stoppers at p3tips.com/986."

Remember, with Crime Stoppers, you always remain anonymous, and your tip could lead to a cash reward. Most importantly, your information could bring closure to Khalil Grant’s family and help make our streets safer.

MOTORCYCLE SAFETY!
Attention Neighbors & Drivers: A Quick Safety Reminder for Our Friends on Two Wheels! 🏍️⚠️

If you’ve ever ridden a motorcycle, you know that grass clippings on the road aren't just a mess, they’re a hazard.

When freshly cut grass gets blown into the street, the moisture and oils make the asphalt as slick as black ice. For a motorcyclist trying to corner or stop, hitting a patch of grass can cause a instant loss of traction and lead to a serious crash.

We put together a short video to break down why this happens and how simple it is to keep our roads safe for everyone.

Take a look at the video below! ⬇️

Key Takeaways & How You Can Help:
Blow standard clippings inward: Keep your mower chute directed back toward your yard, or sweep/blow the street clean after mowing.

Keep it clean: It only takes an extra minute or two to clean off the pavement, but it can save a life.

Riders: Always keep an eye out for fresh lawn work, especially on rural roads and in neighborhoods during the summer.

Let’s keep our roads clean and watch out for our brothers and sisters on two wheels.

Feel free to share this video to help spread the word!
