United Way of Greater New Bedford is proud to partner with the Miss New Bedford Scholarship Program to help raise awareness of Lantern, an initiative of Women United. As part of this collaboration, Miss New Bedford 2027, Avery Barboza, will serve as a spokesperson for the initiative. Lantern is a free early childhood development tool that helps parents and caregivers support their children's learning, growth, and well-being from birth through age eleven through expert tips, activities, and resources delivered directly to their phones.

Avery's Community Service Initiative, An Ounce of Hope, focuses on supporting parents of premature babies and families navigating the NICU experience. Strengthening and supporting parents is a shared goal of both initiatives, making this partnership a natural fit. We are looking forward to increasing awareness about Lantern within our community.

🎄 Tomorrow is the last day to nominate someone for Holiday Wishes! ❤️

Every year, Holiday Wishes gives our community the opportunity to come together for local families and individuals who are facing a difficult time. United Way of Greater New Bedford, FUN 107 & 1420 WBSM are proud to once again work together to bring a little extra hope and joy to the holiday season.

Last year, we introduced you to 7-year-old Jaziah, who was unexpectly diagnosed with leukemia.
Jaziah and his mom began traveling to Boston several times a week for treatment. We were able to take some of the burden off the family by covering medical bills, specialty items to keep Jaziah distracted during treatment, and so much more. ❤️

Stories like Jaziah’s remind us how much a little kindness can mean during a difficult time.

There may be someone in your life who could use that same kindness this year. Maybe it’s a neighbor, a friend, a family member, or someone who has quietly been facing a difficult year.

If someone comes to mind, there’s still time to nominate them.

📅 Nominations close TOMORROW, October 31!

Nominations are open to residents of Acushnet, Dartmouth, Fairhaven, Fall River, Freetown, Marion, Mattapoisett, New Bedford, Rochester, Wareham, and Westport.

✨ Don’t miss the deadline. Nominate someone for Holiday Wishes today!

Last week, we had the pleasure of bringing together our incredible community of supporters, partners, and friends to celebrate the impact we’re making together at United Way of Greater New Bedford.

We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Chris Fortier for his leadership and dedication during his time as Chair of the Board. We’re grateful for all he has contributed and excited to welcome Jennifer St. Pierre as our new Board Chair!

Thank you to our generous sponsors, BayCoast Bank and Bristol County Savings Bank, for helping make the event possible. And an extra-special thank you to Reynolds DeWalt for printing our new annual report and helping us share the stories and impact of our work throughout the community!

We also had the honor of formally celebrating Michelle’s 20th year as President and CEO of UWGNB! 🎉 Two decades of leadership, dedication, and commitment to our community is an incredible milestone, and we’re so grateful for all she has done and continues to do to make a difference across Greater New Bedford.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and continues to believe in the power of coming together to create lasting change. United is the Way!
