Nearly 300 people. Questions that demand our attention. A conversation we intend to keep going.

Thursday night at the Zeiterion, Women’s Fund SouthCoast brought together community members and leaders to examine the connections among reproductive justice, immigrant rights, racial justice, and democracy.

Who holds power? Whose rights are protected? Who gets to shape the decisions that govern our lives?

Bringing these questions to New Bedford mattered. Our SouthCoast communities have knowledge, experience, and leadership that should shape the national conversation—and deserve sustained investment here at home.

Thank you to Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell; panelists Loretta J. Ross, Marielena Hincapié, Senator Lydia Edwards, and Melanie Edwards-Tavares; and moderator Dr. Laurie Nsiah-Jefferson.

📣 New Bedford youth: Help decide where up to $355,000 goes in your community!

Women’s Fund SouthCoast and Atrius Health Equity Foundation are launching the Youth Investment Council—a paid opportunity for approximately 12 young people to help fund organizations building youth leadership, civic engagement, and organizing for a healthier New Bedford.

Members will explore how gender, race, and economic circumstances shape young people’s health and opportunities, then review grant applications and make funding decisions together.

✅ Ages 14–22 who live in or have a strong connection to New Bedford
✅ All genders welcome—no experience needed
✅ Members are expected to receive approximately $500 for completing the process
✅ October 24 orientation, plus five evening meetings through January and application review between meetings
✅ Food provided and support available for participation needs

On October 15, Women’s Fund SouthCoast will bring together national voices, local leadership, and the next generation for Women, Power & the Future of Democracy at The Zeiterion in New Bedford.
