Regis was born with Cerebral Palsy and, since a child, has had limited mobility. Although he relies mainly on family and friends to help with everyday needs, being in a wheelchair has still been a struggle. His most supportive companion is his dog, Oliver, who has been with him for almost eight years. They are the best of friends! And he has PCA staff (personal care assistants) who help with his everyday needs and cares deeply about him. They assist him with daily activities like eating, bathing, and getting around beyond his home.
Despite his challenges, Regis is still the director of his own life. He loves attending musicals and wrestling shows but, most importantly, visiting his family. He is a strong independent man with a big heart. His current handicapped van, over 23 years old, is on its last wheels. It is his only mode of transportation. He has been dealing with quick patches for the breaks, rotting floorboards, steering problems, and overheating. He needs your help to purchase a new van that is wheelchair accessible and can help him live the life he has always lived; it will be a dream come true!
In an accessible vehicle (ie, wheelchair van), the floor has been extended and the vehicle is equipped with a lightweight ramp for a low-grade incline, making for an easy entry and exit.
Regis is asking for this help because he wants to continue living his best life, and you can help him do that. Your support will allow him to continue seeing his family regularly, run errands like grocery shopping, and visit doctors and dentists. But this can only be done with a new van. A brand-new one can cost up to $80,000, with a used one being at least $30,000. He is inching closer, but there is still a ways to go. He is always so positive regardless of what life throws at him and is eager for a new wheelchair-accessible van to keep him living life to the fullest. Any help is greatly appreciated. I have never known anyone quite as deserving and so loving.
