Moms Demand Action - TN

Moms Demand Action - TN Tennessee Moms Demand Action brings together survivors, parents, and community advocates to fight for a future free from gun violence.

This is a volunteer-led page. Moms Demand Action is a grassroots movement of Americans fighting for public safety measures that can protect people from gun violence. We pass stronger gun laws and work to close the loopholes that jeopardize the safety of our families. We also work in our own communities and with business leaders to encourage a culture of responsible gun ownership. We know that gun

violence is preventable, and we’re committed to doing what it takes to keep families safe. We were founded by Shannon Watts, a mother of five. The day after the Sandy Hook tragedy, Shannon started a Facebook group with the message that all Americans can and should do more to reduce gun violence. The online conversation turned into a movement of moms, dads, students, families, concerned citizens and survivors working together with our partners in the gun violence prevention movement to end this uniquely American crisis.

On this day eight years ago, four people were killed and three others were wounded when a gunman armed with an AR-style rifle opened fire inside a Waffle House in Nashville, Tennessee.

Two years ago, Shaundelle Brooks, the mother of Akilah Dasilva who was killed in the shooting, ran for office in his honor and won. She now holds a seat in the Tennessee House of Representatives. We are in awe of survivors like Rep. Brooks who, through their pain, step up to lead on this issue.

We hold the victims and survivors in our hearts as we work to in their honor.

PEOPLE POWER! Moms volunteers across the mid-state joined their communities to demand an end to violence, chaos, and corruption.

Under this administration, gun violence prevention policies proven to work have been rolled back and violence against our neighbors continues. None of this makes our communities safer. Democracy doesn’t work at gunpoint.

Tennessee Moms Demand Action volunteers are working across the state to close a loophole in a domestic violence dispossession law.

Tennessee advocates urge judges to update gun-dispossession forms to hold domestic abusers and third parties accountable for surrendered weapons.

On this day three years ago, three 9-year-old students and three staff members were shot and killed at The Covenant School, a K-6 elementary school in Nashville, Tennessee. The shooter was armed with an AR-style rifle, an AR-style pistol, a handgun, and multiple rounds of ammunition.

The shooting galvanized parents, students and other community members to demand Tennessee lawmakers take meaningful action to prevent gun violence in their schools and communities, but those demands were largely ignored by lawmakers beholden to the gun industry.

We hold in our hearts all whose lives were stolen or forever changed at The Covenant School as we remain committed to our work to in their honor.

DEVASTATING 💔 Our hearts are with Kailon’s family and friends.

“Kailon’s family said he was always active, playing football and found a love for rock climbing. They say it taught him the importance of perseverance and being a good community member.

‘He’s just a phenomenal kid. Very energetic, his smile would light up a room, his personality would light up a room, that’s just who he was,’ Boga mentioned.”

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The family of a 14-year-old who was shot and killed March 13 says the past week has been a blur. Kailon Price was gunned down on Kerr Avenue in South Memphis while riding his…

Thankfully no one was hurt last week, when a loaded gun was brought to a middle school in Gallatin. Secure gun storage is always the responsibility of adults.

“Lounder, a member of Moms Demand Action, believes it’s the parents that need to do more, specifically when it comes to gun safety.

‘Where does a 13, 14-year-old secure a weapon?” asked Lounder. “It’s gonna take people securing home (or vehicle) weapons; it’s gonna take the entire community. The school system can’t do it on their own.’”

“We were very, very lucky because everything went right,” said Hilary Lounder, a parent with two kids at Station Camp Middle.
