🐶 Charlie Brown 🐶 is a good boy. He's always been a good boy. He just hasn't found his person yet.
This sweet 9-year-old, 42 lb senior came into rescue carrying nothing but gentleness. He loves people deeply, melts into snuggles, and is wonderful with kids 10 and up. He's house trained, calm indoors, and won't chew your furniture or your patience. He just wants to be near you. 🐾

Charlie does great with laid-back dogs, but busy apartment living with constant leash-crossings has stressed him out, and he deserves better than that. A house with a yard, a quieter street, a little more breathing room — that's his sweet spot. Not a complicated ask for a dog who gives so much back.

Senior dogs get overlooked every single day, and we'll never really understand why. Charlie has so much love left to give. He's not a project. He's not a burden. He's a companion who will show up for you every morning with his whole heart.

What does "shelter diversion" really mean? 🐾

Shelter diversion is all about helping pets find safe solutions before they ever enter an overcrowded shelter. Through fostering, rehoming support, and community partnerships, rescues like SOAR can often create better outcomes for animals while easing the burden on local shelters.

Every time a pet stays out of the shelter system, it creates more space and resources for another animal in need. That's why every foster home, volunteer, donor, and adopter plays such an important role in our mission.

The ending we all dreamed about. 🏡🐾

Once we knew Dave was Marshmallow's person, there was only one question left...

How do we get a dog from Nashville to Oregon?

Then something incredible happened.

We reached out for help, and within 24 hours, Many Paws Volunteer Transport began organizing the journey.
On May 9th, Marshmallow started an unforgettable trip across the country.

40 volunteer transport legs.
Two weeks.
Thousands of miles.

Every driver gave their time simply because they believed every dog deserves a chance.

Thanks to Many Paws Volunteer Transport Team , DOGTV for sharing Marshmallow's story, our fosters, our supporters, and every single person who cheered him on...

Marshmallow finally made it home.

Today, he's living the life he always deserved—running on five acres, soaking up love from his dad Dave and his new sister, and finally knowing what it means to belong.

This is why rescue matters.

Thank you for believing in Marshmallow. Because of this community, one dog who almost didn't get a chance now has the forever life he deserved.

Here's to many more happy endings. 🤍🐾

The application we almost turned away... 💙

After waiting 736 days, Marshmallow finally received what we'd been hoping for.
An adoption application.
There was just one problem...
It came from Oregon.
More than 2,400 miles away.

We don't often complete adoptions that far from home. The logistics are complicated, and Marshmallow wasn't just any dog—he had overcome major medical challenges, and we wanted to make absolutely sure he found the right family.

So we called Dave.

What was supposed to be a quick conversation turned into more than an hour.

The more we talked, the more it became clear that this wasn't just another application.

His veterinarian couldn't say enough wonderful things about him. He had spent years grieving the loss of his last dog before feeling ready to open his heart again.

Sometimes, the perfect family doesn't live around the corner.

Sometimes... they're 2,400 miles away.

And in that moment, we knew we had to find a way.

Some stories stay with you forever. Marshmallow's is one of them.

At just 9 months old, Marshmallow's future was uncertain.

A local shelter reached out with heartbreaking news. He had been born with a congenital heart defect, and without specialized surgery, euthanasia was the only option they could offer.

SOAR Rescue couldn't let his story end there.

Because of the generosity of our supporters and the expertise of an incredible veterinary team at Auburn University, Marshmallow received the life-saving heart surgery he needed. What once seemed impossible became a second chance.

He healed.
He learned to trust.
He discovered the joy of playing, snuggling, and simply being a dog.

But one thing was still missing... a family to call his own.

For 475 days, Marshmallow waited patiently, proving every single day that he was worth fighting for.
His story isn't over just yet...
