Mature Living

Mature Living Spiritual and relational encouragement for older adults. Here’s the first thing I have to find out. At exactly what age does one become a Senior Adult? Go figure.

A note from Mike Glen:.. Since I turned 55 and got my first free cup of coffee, I’ve found myself thinking more and more about the questions, challenges and issues facing Senior Adults. I’ve been sharply rebuked by some who did not yet consider themselves “Senior Adults.” My mom, who will admit to being 49, won’t go to Senior Adult events because they’re for “old people.”
Perhaps my first assign

ment is to find a name to better describe who we are and what we can do. Things have changed. We’re in better health and staying active in our careers, relationships and hobbies. We’re experienced leaders and hard workers. We’ve survived the assassination of a President and the resignation of another. We’ve seen every kind of economy, the highest highs and the lowest lows. We’ve lived through the breakup of the Beatles and Mick Jagger becoming a great-grandfather. Maybe we should call ourselves the Veterans. We’ve gone off to live our lives and come back to tell about it. And yes, we should get a parade for that. Wonder if I could get them to change the name of this magazine to “Veteran Living.”
By the way, I’ve been pastor of Brentwood Baptist Church for 22 years. I’m married to Jeannie and we just celebrated our 33rd anniversary. We’re the proud parents of two married sons; Chris (Deb) and Craig (Nan). So, Veterans Unite! There’s a lot of living to do and the world still needs us. These problems aren’t going to get better by themselves.
