Temporary Feline Intake Suspension Effective June 18

Collier County Domestic Animal Services (DAS) is temporarily suspending general feline intake only effective June 18 due to current shelter capacity challenges and active disease-management concerns affecting the feline population.

DAS is currently caring for approximately 302 cats onsite, in addition to 293 animals in foster care. Many of these animals are neonatal kittens, young kittens, and cats requiring medical treatment or monitoring. These populations are especially vulnerable to illness and require increased medical oversight and resources.

During this temporary suspension, DAS will continue to accept sick, injured, medically compromised, and other emergency feline cases requiring immediate intervention. Dog intake operations will not be affected.

This temporary measure will allow DAS to focus resources on the health and welfare of animals currently in care, support disease-management efforts, and reduce population pressures within the shelter.

Community members interested in adopting or fostering are encouraged to visit Pets.Collier.gov or contact the shelter at (239) 252-7387 for more information.


The suspension will remain in effect while DAS evaluates shelter population levels and disease-management progress.

Please note: DAS will still be sterilizing TNR cats Tuesday through Friday as surgery space allows. TNR cats must be dropped off between 8-9AM and must be picked up by 4-5PM the same day!

🐾 Indy Update 🐾

Sweet Indy developed a very fast-growing lump on her left shoulder. After vet exams, tests, and X-rays, mass removal with amputation was the difficult, but best option for Indy. Thank MEW to her surgeon, Dr Horsley at Petology Naples!

Our brave girl is now officially a “Tripawd” (tripod = three-legged kitty)! 💜

Indy is recovering and still adjusting, but showing her true feline strength. She’s learning to balance, sometimes leaning for support before settling in for rest and recovery cat naps. She’s getting lots of snuggles, treats, and help while she heals. Even through it all, Indy is showing her brave little CATitude. She is comfortable & being loved every step of the way.

Also a very special shout-out goes to her vet & surgeon, Dr. Horsley, and the entire Team at Petology Animal Hospital of Naples for the exceptional care they provided to Indy. We are so grateful for everything they have done for our sweet girl! 🐾💕

Today, we honor the heroes who gave their lives protecting the freedoms we enjoy every day. Their courage, selflessness, and unwavering dedication will never be FURgotten. 🐱✨ We remember not only those who served, but also the families, friends, and loved ones who carry their memory in their hearts each and every day.

While many spend today gathered with family, enjoying sunshine, cookouts, and time together, we also take time to pause and reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day. It is a day of remembrance, gratitude, and honoring the incredible sacrifice made by so many brave Americans. 🇺🇸
