Posey County Historical Society The Posey County Historical Society was established in 1922. After the collection was vandalized in the 1930"s, the Society disbanded.

In 1972, a group re-organized the Historical Society and has been going strong ever since! We are located in the Hedges Central Community Center - Door #4

The next meeting of the Posey County Historical Society will be held Saturday, May 30th at the Alexandrian Public Library at 10:00 a.m.
Our program has yet to be determined.

This hand-drawn map shows roads through southern Indiana during the 1840s. The types of roads on the map are "four horse coach routes," "two horse" and "horse," indicating the kinds of transportation post riders and drivers could use to transport the mail.

The map is believed to have belonged to Elisha Embree, a judge of the Dubois County Circuit Court (1835-1845), who was later elected as a U.S. Congressman and served as a member of the Committee on Post Offices and Post Roads during 1847-1849.

Mt. Vernon officials have decorated their water tower to commemorate the 250th anniversary of America. It's one of a list of initiatives as residents near the 4th of July.

We will list New Harmony USA 250th events as soon as we receive them.
We are getting ready to witness a historical event. The next time it will be 2076!!
