🐾❤️ OCTOBER IS ADOPT A SHELTER DOG MONTH! ❤️🐾
If you’ve been saying, “Someday, I’d love to adopt a rescue dog…” perhaps someday is today. 🐶
October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, a national initiative begun in 1981 to shine a light on the countless wonderful dogs waiting in shelters and foster homes for someone to say, “You’re coming home with me.”
And here at Lil’s Thrift Shop, this month speaks directly to our hearts — because helping vulnerable animals is the entire reason we exist. Every treasure donated, every bargain purchased, and every dollar raised helps us support the incredible work of our five Rutherford County animal-welfare partners:

🐾 Pets Are Worth Saving (PAWS)
🐾 Rutherford County Humane Society
🐾 Southern Paws Animal Rescue (SPAR)
Together, these organizations provide an extraordinary range of services for local animals, including spay/neuter programs, vaccinations, microchipping, food assistance, foster care, adoptions, emergency veterinary treatment, transportation, TNR programs for community cats, education and so much more. And yes — they have dogs waiting for homes. ❤️
Why adopt?
🐶 You save a life — and make room for another animal who needs help.
🐶 There really is a dog for almost everyone — puppies, seniors, couch potatoes, walking buddies, big dogs, little dogs and everything in between.
🐶 Rescue organizations know their animals. Foster families, shelter staff and volunteers can often help match you with a dog whose personality and energy level fit your family and lifestyle.
🐶 Many adoptable dogs have already received important veterinary care such as spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations and microchipping before heading home.
But perhaps the best reason is the one that can’t be measured: You may think you’re rescuing a dog…and discover that wonderful little soul rescues a piece of you right back. ❤️
So, if you’ve been thinking about adopting, make October the month you stop thinking and start looking. Visit our partner organizations, meet the dogs waiting for families, and see whether your new best friend might already be waiting for you.
And if adoption isn’t possible right now, consider fostering, volunteering, donating — or simply shopping at Lil’s. Every one of those acts helps another animal get closer to the happy ending they deserve.
