⚓🇺🇸 251 years ago today, the United States Navy was established during the American Revolution. The Minnesota State Society Daughters of the American Revolution pays tribute to the U.S. Navy and extends its birthday wishes to this esteemed institution.

Founded on October 13, 1775, the U.S. Navy has steadfastly served our nation for over two and a half centuries by defending our shores and safeguarding our liberties.

We take a moment to reflect and thank the generations of courageous sailors who have selflessly served, along with the families who stood by their sides. May the brave men and women of the U.S. Navy enjoy fair winds on the open seas today and every day. Thank you for your service! 🇺🇸⚓

Today, the Minnesota State Society Daughters of the American Revolution celebrates Indigenous Peoples' Day, a time to honor the profound, complex histories and vibrant cultures of America's Indigenous peoples, especially the Dakota and Anishinaabe communities in Minnesota.

As we reflect on the intricate histories that shaped our nation and state, we acknowledge both the incredible achievements and the injustices that Indigenous peoples have faced. We honor the extraordinary resilience of Indigenous communities, who, in the face of centuries of adversity, continue to flourish and preserve their languages, traditions, and customs.

Today, we are called to unite in solidarity, recognize the enduring spirit and strength of Indigenous peoples, and appreciate the invaluable contributions they make to our society.

Members of the Fergus Falls Chapter (Fergus Falls, MN) participated in a moving ceremony honoring William Morrow, Otter Tail County's last living Civil War veteran, and Charles W. McKay, Otter Tail County's only Congressional Medal of Honor recipient. They joined the men from the Col. Colville Camp of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War and members of the Fergus Falls VFW in laying a wreath and paying their respects.

The Fort Snelling Chapter (Hastings, MN) had an inspiring DAR Day of Service at the annual open house at Burnsville Fire Station No. 1! Chapter members had the wonderful opportunity to show their heartfelt appreciation for the incredible firefighters and EMS teams who bravely serve their community every day.

Chapter members brought thank-you cards, coffee, and snacks, including a sweet treat: several batches of Eileen's Colossal Cookies, fulfilling a special request from Burnsville Fire Chief BJ Jungemann!

During their visit, chapter members explored the fire station, learned about the Life Flight service, and saw the mobile command units up close. They even had fun trying out their skills working the fire hose!

Thank you to the Burnsville Fire Department for welcoming the Daughters of the Fort Snelling Chapter and for protecting and keeping your community safe. Your dedication and service are inspirational! 👨‍🚒 🚒🔥🇺🇸🌟

Since 2016, the Keewaydin Chapter (Minneapolis, MN) has volunteered to pack much-needed food with Feed My Starving Children for DAR Day of Service. This year, they packed 21,168 meals in 98 boxes, enough to feed 58 hungry children for a year. A much-appreciated service and time well-spent feeding hungry children around the world!

The Anoka Chapter (Anoka, MN) spent a patriotic day with residents at a local retirement home for its DAR Day of Service, bringing smiles and serving delicious desserts, including cookies and apple crisp. They celebrated the USA's 250th anniversary by writing 250 thank-you cards for veterans and taking some fun photos! It was a delightful day of sharing, gratitude, and camaraderie!

During the DAR Month of Service, the Captain Robert Orr Chapter (Brainerd, MN) worked with the 5th- and 6th-grade football team from Aitkin Public Schools to teach them how to properly and respectfully clean veteran headstones and graves. The team's coach explained the significance of this service and the importance of honoring veterans. In a short time, the team cleaned over 40 graves.

For DAR Day of Service, the Nathan Hale Chapter (St. Paul, MN) paid tribute to Minnesota's brave first responders by cleaning headstones at the 1891 firefighter memorial in St. Paul's Calvary Cemetery. 👨‍🚒🚒🔥🇺🇸
