Bug — A Distinguished Gentleman With a Soft Spot for Snuggles Bug knows what he likes: time outside, a comfortable place to relax, and people who understand the importance of a good neck scratch. This handsome senior(11yo), affectionately nicknamed “Bugger,” is a Doberman/Husky mix confirmed by DNA testing. He brings his own blend of affection, personality, and a little good-natured mischief to everyday life. Meeting adults is often an opportunity to make another friend. Bug may greet you with a sniff, a lick, and a lean—and if the petting stops too soon, he might offer a reminder. He takes his role as a snuggle buddy seriously. His foster describes him as mellow and easygoing, happiest in a calm home with a predictable routine. He enjoys being outside and having room to run, then settling into a more relaxed pace with his people. Bug doesn’t need a mountain of plush toys to be entertained. A filled bone is more his style. He’s also a smart fellow who enjoys training and already knows sit, stay, lie down, off, and “go to bed.” Mealtimes come with a familiar routine of sitting and waiting. Although his previous family described him as talkative, his foster finds him generally quiet. He still knows when an announcement is necessary—particularly if dinner is late or he needs to go outside. He’s an agreeable traveling companion, rides well in the car, and earns glowing reviews for his behavior at the vet, including nail trims. He’s working on losing a few extra pounds, so treats are being kept small. Bug is not comfortable in a crate and has not been in one in years. He does ok with being behind a gate if needed. And then there are his kitchen skills. Bug has been known to help himself to food on the counter, including an entire roast. He would probably call that excellent timing. His people will call it a reason to keep food out of reach and the trash can locked. Bug’s next home should offer a peaceful routine, affection, and thoughtful attention to his needs. His history with young children and his preferences around other dogs make careful matching especially important. For the right household, this distinguished gentleman could bring a lovely combination of outdoor companionship, cozy snuggles, and timely dinner reminders. Bug’s Home Fit Household: A quiet, predictable home with adults or older children 13+ Young children make his uneasy and nervous. Discuss this history and household suitability with DRM. Other dogs: Has lived with another dog, but not good w/ other large male dogs. Introductions and matching need careful assessment. Cats: His previous family reports that he did well with household cats, generally ignoring them or accepting their cuddles. Yard: A securely fenced yard is required. He enjoys running and has not been reported to dig out, but can open gates with his nose. Secure latches are essential; recall when loose is unreliable. Alone time: Comfortable in a gated area, with positive crate reintroduction underway. Mild separation anxiety needs continued patient support. Food and house manners: House-trained, with counter surfing that requires kitchen management and a locking trash can. Previous growling when children approached his food and abrupt treat-taking, should be discussed with DRM. Health and handling: Working on weight loss; the surrender form also lists benign fatty lumps. Reported to ride well in the car and do very well at veterinary visits and nail trims.
