Pinky Swear Foundation Helping kids with cancer and their families with financial support. Mitch was nine years old when he was diagnosed with bone cancer.
(3)

In the hospital in December, he overheard the family next to him having a discussion that there would not be enough money for Christmas that year. Mitch looked at his dad and said, “This isn’t fair. How much money do I have in the bank?” Steve helped Mitch into his wheelchair and took him to the bank. Mitch withdrew all the money he had in his savings account and put it in envelopes for the kids o

n the pediatric oncology floor at the hospital. He signed each envelope, “Love Mitch. XOXO” Before nine-year-old Mitch Chepokas passed away, he made a pinky swear with his dad to continue to help children with cancer and their families. Since his death in 2003, the Pinky Swear community has carried on that promise by supporting kids with cancer and their families with housing, food, and transportation costs. By supporting families with everyday expenses, they can focus on what matters most - their child.

Scarletts leukemia treatment required frequent travel and her dad had to quit his job to care for her leaving their family of 5 with no income. Pinky Swear's supporters ensured they would have gas in their tank and paid a car payment for their truck.

Normal bills don't stop during a childhood cancer diagnosis. They stack up alongside the medical bills, but unlike the medical ones, they cannot be delayed. They keep the lights on, they ensure travel to treatment, and are key to survival.

For All-Star Scarlett's family, the car payment was so important, and it became so overwhelming with no income coming in.

Your support paid their car payment.

“I felt that it was too much to ask for, but I applied to Pinky Swear anyway,” Scarlett's dad, James, said. “They paid the whole month’s car payment. Because of that, we were able to keep the car, which is the one we drive to the hospital. It was a huge burden lifted off my shoulders."

When families can get to treatment, their child's outcome is improved. You make a difference. Learn more: https://hubs.la/Q04hJpDN0

A lesser talked about treatment for cancer: bone marrow transplants (BMT).

A BMT is a procedure that infuses healthy blood-forming stem cells into your body to replace bone marrow that is not producing enough healthy blood cells. It is also called a stem cell transplant. It can help people with cancer and also noncancerous diseases. Most people stay in hospital for several weeks after a BMT and there are many risks, but overall, it is a highly successful, life-saving treatment for patients with certain illnesses.

All-Star Dyllan recently received a successful BMT for Hodgkin's Lymphoma. 🔔

💙 In 2003, Pinky Swear Foundation began when 9-year-old Mitch distributed his own $6,000 to other families on his pediatric cancer floor, then made his dad pinky swear promise to continue supporting families like theirs.

🧡 In 2025, nearly 2,500 families facing childhood cancer experienced financial relief through Pinky Swear.

“Grateful” doesn’t even begin to describe how we feel about the Pinky Swear community. 🎗️

For Scarlett and her family, the hospital where she received treatment for leukemia was a two-hour trip one way. They would make this trip over and over during her treatment.

You were there to fill their tank full of gas to get there. 💙 "It was a big help,” James said.
