It's going to be a Hot Union Summer!

Uber and Lyft drivers, like so many workers, are done with disrespect, low pay, and a worklife governed by AI and corporate greed.

Massachusetts drivers are leading the way with the App Drivers Union and Minnesota must also update its laws to give drivers a path to form a union.

A giant congratulations to the Uber and Lyft Drivers of Massachusetts on forming the first rideshare drivers' union in the United States!

Members of the SEIU 26 Drivers Organizing Committee visited MA multiple times to help in their fight--and we plan to follow their example!

Thank you Amy Klobuchar!

Over the weekend rideshare drivers with the SEIU Local 26 Driver Organizing Committee were proud to welcome Sen. Amy Klobuchar to the MSP Airport driver waiting lot to share stories about what rideshare drivers in Minnesota are facing. We appreciated Amy listening to stories about plummeting take home pay and how this is forcing drivers to sometimes work 16 hours a day to make ends meet. She heard about seemingly arbitrary deactivations and the feeling from drivers like these jobs were once good jobs, but conditions are heading in the wrong direction. Driver after driver shared how after years of fighting, a union is clearly the only answer to stabilize this industry for drivers and passengers alike.

We appreciated Amy taking the time to listen to workers to help understand the difficult on-the-ground situation and why they are fighting so hard to update the law, granting them the right to vote on a union like most other workers.

Read this important story that features Said, a driver who is part of the SEIU Local 26 Rideshare Organizing Committee. This is yet another challenge for rideshare drivers in Minnesota, and yet another reason drivers are fighting to change the law in Minnesota so they can have the same ability to join a union as most other workers.

Uber and Lyft drivers pay for their own gas. Drivers say that’s cutting into their paychecks, as prices climb.

UNITE HERE Local 17 members employed by Delaware North Company at Target Field have voted to authorize a strike while they attempt to negotiate a contract that respects their work. The approximately 500-person unit, is represented by UNITE HERE Local 17.

“This stadium brings in an incredible amount of money for the Twins each game day and it’s time that we the people who make the stadium work see some of this. My co-workers and I are ready to strike for what we deserve” Ariel Concessions Worker at Target Field.

“The Twins Organization needs to hold their concessionaire Delaware North Company accountable and tell them to settle a fair contract or they will face a strike” Sheigh Freeberg, Secretary Treasurer UNITE HERE Local 17

Now that a strike has been authorized, a strike can be called by the Union Committee at any time.

What a powerful day! Along with our partners Unidos MN, UFCW Local 663, New Justice Project MN (and many more) we held a groundbreaking event for the Rise Up Center in south Minneapolis. Speakers shared about how our new building, which formerly was home to the Uptown YWCA, will house job training and community building that are going to help build skills for workers and be a positive new hub for the uptown area. We ended the press conference with members and leaders from our groups doing a ceremonial wall smashing to signify our push on Phase 1 to get the building ready for the amazing things that will be happening here soon!
