This is the letter union leadership sent to the CEO of and all the commissioners on May 2nd. Our members voted overwhelmingly that they have no confidence in Marty Scheerer to lead .
In the past month, Chief Scheerer has tried to deflect blame to budgetary staffing and other factors outside his control. The fact of the matter is paramedics, dispatchers and EMTs don’t trust him. They see his toxic leadership style and watch as he misrepresents them on news stories to protect his personal image. Long tenured clinicians and department leaders have been leaving for years, as a result of the Chief’s disrespectful in-person communication and belittling emails.
Finally, Chief Scheerer has failed to address the growing mental health crisis among paramedics, dispatchers and EMTs. He will tell you tales of all the initiatives he has proposed, while denying dispatchers who fielded calls during the Annunciation shooting time off to process.
A vote of 140 to 7 isn’t a coincidence, it’s a warning. If Chief Scheerer stays, a critical mass of 9-1-1 responders will leave and Hennepin County residents will suffer! Please like, comment and share to spread the word that you support 9-1-1 responders and not toxic leaders.
