Jana Shortal reached out yesterday to offer her support and check in on our members. This was not for a story or any professional purpose, but simply out of genuine kindness and concern.
We greatly appreciate her taking the time to recognize the impact an incident like this can have on our members. She made it clear this matters not only during the call itself, but in the hours and days that follow.

HCAPE is heartbroken by the tragic events that occurred in City of Hopkins this morning. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, the children and families impacted, and the entire Hopkins community as they process an unimaginable loss.
We also want to recognize the paramedics, EMTs, dispatchers, firefighters, law enforcement officers, and other public safety professionals who responded to this incredibly difficult scene. Calls involving children and the loss of life are among the most challenging situations our first responders will ever face. The impact of these incidents does not simply end when the call is cleared.
Our members at Hennepin EMS respond every day to people experiencing the worst moments of their lives. This morning is a sobering reminder of both the importance of that work and the emotional burden carried by those who perform it.
HCAPE will continue to support our members who responded today and ensure they have access to the resources and support they need in the days ahead
