Always with the goal of working toward a safer, more livable city, our job is to improve working conditions for our members—police officers who work in Minneapolis—and to make certain their rights are protected. The Federation represents Minneapolis police officers in matters related to their working conditions, and terms and conditions of employment. The Federation is a union but its members, deemed “essential employees,” are prohibited by law from striking. The Federation serves its members not only in the traditional role of negotiating and enforcing the collective bargaining agreement; but also in matters such as critical incidents, investigations of officers conducted under the Police Officer’s Bill of Rights, and lobbying to advance the public policy interests of members at the local, state and federal levels. The Federation takes a very active role in putting a public face on Minneapolis police officers. It works with media and community leaders to present a positive image of police officers to the public. The Federation also actively works with other unions that represent Minneapolis employees on issues of general importance to all city employees. The Federation Board of Directors consists of 10 elected members (nine from the Minneapolis Police Department and one from the Park Police Department), each serving a two-year term. The Federation president serves full-time, along with one other designated board member. The rest of the board serves part-time, while remaining full-time members of the police force.

It’s been a while since Celly has popped in to say “hello”! He’s been enjoying all the recent snow and loves lying in it and burying his face in it too! 😆 He’s also loving the old and new friends who stop by the office to give him extra b***y scratches💕

He’s hoping everyone’s holiday season is off to a safe and wonderful start! 🎅🏻

🕊️ A Somber Anniversary 🕊️

On May 30, 2024, Officer Jamal Mitchell responded without hesitation to a call for help -- two people shot on the 2200 block of Blaisdell Avenue.

While on route, Mitchell stopped short about two blocks from the reported address to help a pair of people lying in the road that he thought were the victims.

True to his character, Mitchell rushed toward one of them, but that person turned out to be the armed suspect and opened fire, fatally wounding Mitchell.

While additional officers confronted the shooter, others rushed Mitchell to the hospital in a bullet-riddled squad car under emergency es**rt, but it was too late.

Today -- one year later -- we honor Officer Mitchell’s courage, sacrifice, and service.

A banner bearing Mitchell’s name has been added to the MPD flag alongside the names of other officers who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our city.

We will never forget any of the MPD officers killed in the line of duty. Like Officer Mitchell, their legacies live on in the hearts of those who serve and in the community they gave everything to protect. 💙
