Rallies in Minneapolis, Duluth, Mankato and virtual! We are joining our coalition partners to remind MMB and the Governor we are ready for a fight to protect our health care and negotiate a fair contract. Our last week of bargaining, Push Week, is our last chance to fight back these attacks. If you are waiting for a sign to get involved, this is it! https://mape.org/getinvolved

“Many workers argue they’re more productive at home and complain that the order adds to their costs in parking and gas. Some also question the motive, suspecting Walz could be distancing himself from public unions ahead of another run for governor — or trying to nudge workers off the payroll as the state stares down fiscal uncertainty.

The state has also proposed changing contract language to make it easier to lay off workers in the event of “fiscal exigencies” such as federal funding cuts, as well as epidemics, natural disasters and national security emergencies.”

Take a seat in the Break Room, our weekly round-up of labor news in Minnesota and beyond. This week: State workers say they’re strike ready; Job Corps students face homelessness; Minnesota surpasses 3 million jobs in 2024; and doctors and nurses picket across the state. State employees picketing o...

Don’t be caught off guard if you open and email or even snail mail with a layoff notice. This is standard operating procedure when we are less than a month out from the end of the state fiscal year with budgets still not passed or signed by the Governor. MAPE is keeping close tabs on all things and will be keeping members informed. This is the time to stay involved in the bargaining and engagement processes with both you union and your state legislators.

It has been more than a week since the Minnesota legislature adjourned the 2025 session and there has been some slow, agonizing movement toward finalizing the remaining budget bills. The earliest a special session will be called is Tuesday, June 3, which means we anticipate members receiving anticipatory layoff notices on Monday. https://mape.org/news/legislative-update-may-28-2025

Are you planning to appeal your new telework agreement? Check out this guidance from MAPE staff. Our current Interim Regional Steward Director is Jon VanOeveren aka JVO, connect with JVO and he’ll connect you with a steward to steer you through the appeal process.

Telework is a statewide policy and not contract language. The appeal (and right for a union representative to be present) is our only contractual right. Our goal is to mediate a resolution, but regardless of the outcome, the process matters and our documentation from these appeal meetings equates to...

We just signed, sealed and delivered a petition to our Commissioner yesterday. We hope that our 91% signature rate in just four days helps Commissioner Jett demonstrate to his boss, Governor Walz, that workers at MDE aren’t feeling appreciated with his RTO mandate breathing down our necks.
