Today, we honor the memory of Burnsville Police Officers Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge, and Burnsville Firefighter Paramedic Adam Finseth, whose lives were tragically taken two years ago in the line of duty.

These courageous men acted selflessly to protect seven children who were in harm’s way, demonstrating the true meaning of greater love by laying down one’s life for others.

We remember their bravery, dedication, and the lasting impact they made on their community. As we reflect on their sacrifice, we stand beside their families, friends, and fellow first responders. Their legacy of courage, service, and love will never be forgotten.

Heroes live forever.

As Fire Chief Bryan Tyner completes his final day in office, we want to take a moment to express our deep gratitude for his decades of service and leadership to the City of Minneapolis Government.

Raised in North Minneapolis, Chief Tyner began his career with MFD in 1995. Over more than 30 years of service, he held multiple leadership roles and, in 2020, became the City’s second Black Fire Chief — always leading with integrity, dedication, and a deep commitment to community.
