Maternal Health Matters is partnering with Hennepin Healthcare Mobile Health to offer free physical check-ups for pregnant and postpartum mothers on Monday, October 19, at Sabathani Community Center.

Appointments include personalized care, maternal wellness support, health guidance, and an opportunity to ask questions about your health and your baby’s health.

Only 8 appointments are available!

Registration happens in person at the Maternal Health Resource Fair:
Saturday, October 17 • 11am–12pm
Sabathani Community Center • 2nd Floor

Visit the Hennepin County Mobile Health Clinic table during the Resource Fair to sign up for an appointment.

Eligibility: Pregnant or up to 6 months postpartum, currently receiving care through Hennepin Health and/or having given birth at HCMC. Proof of health insurance is required.

🏀 Back-to-school shopping with a little help from the Minnesota Lynx!

For the second year, 12 girls from Sabathani had the opportunity to team up with Minnesota Lynx players for a special shopping spree at Target. Each participant received $1,000 to shop for the supplies, clothing, and other essentials they wanted and needed for a healthy, happy, and successful school year.

But the day was about more than shopping. The girls spent time alongside the players talking, connecting, and being celebrated and encouraged as they head into a new school year.

🌟 We’re excited to welcome one of our newest Building Partners, Minnesota People of Color Pride (MNPOC Pride), now located in Suite 228!

MNPOC Pride is a statewide nonprofit dedicated to uplifting and empowering LGBTQ+ people of color through advocacy, education, health initiatives, cultural programming, and year-round community engagement. Their work includes youth leadership, workforce development, health equity, community wellness, and creating safe, affirming spaces where everyone can thrive.

🎃 And they’re already bringing some Halloween fun to Sabathani! MNPOC Pride and Rainbow Roots invite the community to Trunk or Treat on Saturday, October 31, from 2–5pm in the Sabathani parking lot. Come out for decorated trunks, candy, food trucks, DJs, a costume contest, and more!

Want to help fill the parking lot with decorated trunks? They’re looking for more folks to participate by decorating a vehicle and bringing candy to hand out to kids. There’s no fee to participate. Reach out to MNPOC Pride if you’d like to join in!

New and expectant Black mothers are invited to come together for an evening of community, connection, and healing. 💜

Facilitated by Carmen Lewis in partnership with Black Brilliance, this monthly Healing Circle offers a supportive space to connect with other mothers, explore healing strategies, and receive support along the journey of pregnancy and motherhood.

First Monday of every month, beginning October 5
Dinner: 5:30–6pm
Healing Circle: 6–7:30pm

Dinner, childcare, and transportation assistance are provided at no cost.

At our September Board meeting, we took time to honor four members who are concluding their service on Sabathani Community Center’s Board of Directors:

Board Chair Andrea Atkinson presented certificates of appreciation and paid tribute to the many gifts each has brought to Sabathani through years of leadership and service. Fellow board members and President/CEO Scott Redd joined in sharing their admiration, respect, and joy in celebrating their contributions.

The tributes throughout the meeting spoke to leadership that has been consistent and unwavering, always putting community first, and to the importance of Sabathani remaining unapologetically Black and firmly rooted in the community we serve.

We are deeply grateful for their service and the impact they have made on Sabathani and our community.

And as we celebrate these departing members, a new chapter is beginning: five new members are joining Sabathani’s Board of Directors. We look forward to introducing them soon!
