Not in Windom Park but this opportunity with the Powderhorn Park Neighborhood Association may be of interest to the many artists in our community!

The Powderhorn Art Fair will celebrate 35 years of vibrant community love and timeless craftsmanship in Powderhorn Park on Saturday and Sunday, August 1st & 2nd, from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM each day.

Powderhorn Art Fair is honored to spotlight youth artists in this year’s programming and partner with hyper-local community-engaged artist, Michael Hoyt, alongside over 200 exceptionally dynamic artists, a mouthwatering multicultural
food market, and dozens of beloved community partners. This year’s applications resulted in an incredibly competitive
lineup of artists and food vendors, ensuring a dazzling 35th anniversary celebration.

The Powderhorn Art Fair plans to enrich our unforgettable event this year by cherishing the resilience of community love and connection. We believe in setting up the next generation of artists for success by providing invaluable mentorship opportunities alongside other youth art organizations. This year, select Minneapolis youth with promising futures in the arts will be paired with established artists for mentorship and career development opportunities.

Michael Hoyt is a Minnesota-born artist who maintains a professional art practice, living and working in Minneapolis. Hoyt’s
creative practice includes drawing, painting, network technology, public participation, community land stewardship, and
more. He believes art and creativity can serve as a critical catalyst for social and political change by engaging people in
deliberative dialogue, illuminating concealed stories, building cross-sector platforms, and advancing agency and equity. In
2026, Powderhorn Art Fair is excited to collaborate with Hoyt to spotlight his art and activism through deeply thoughtful and
one-of-a-kind Powderhorn merchandise.

The Powderhorn Art Fair is delighted to showcase awe-inspiring, award-winning artists from the Midwest, revered local
businesses and arts nonprofits, visionary artist collectives, and eco-conscious upcycle artists who continue to inspire us through their sustainable artistry. Artist categories include clay, digital art, fiber, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed media 2D & 3D, painting, paper, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and wood. Prices vary, offering something for every enthusiast, experienced collector, and casual buyer.

Visitors will experience the joy of community connections, eclectic art in every genre, and irresistible cuisines from around
the world. The kid-favorite Family Zone returns with fun-packed, educational, and engaging activities for kids of all ages. The
Powderhorn Art Fair is thrilled to spotlight upcycle artists for the fourth year in a row, promoting sustainability and
environmental awareness through creativity.

The Powderhorn Art Fair is in continued partnership with the Renter Support Fund (RSF), a key program of Powderhorn Park
Neighborhood Association (PPNA), the host organization of this community-centered art festival. In response to increased
rates of eviction after Operation Metro Surge, the RSF aims to fundraise $750,000 leading up to the 35th Annual
Powderhorn Art Fair in efforts to maintain its expanded grant program of 60 monthly grants at $1,200 per individual. The
fund seeks to provide relief to cost-burdened Minneapolis renters through low-barrier cash assistance. This program has
been a vital resource for many Minneapolis renters facing housing insecurity. By combining our event and advocacy efforts,
PPNA aims to center community wellbeing through collective action and radical love.

The Powderhorn Art Fair is proudly partnering with KRSM Radio to provide an on-site DJ throughout the weekend,
complementing the vibrant art exhibits with the diverse sounds of the southside.

The fair is FREE to the public.

** TRANSPORTATION TUESDAYS**

From our partners at Minnesota Department of Transportation:

To help keep everyone safe during daily commutes and summer travel, May 11-31, law enforcement agencies across the state will be conducting a statewide seat belt enforcement and awareness campaign. While more than 95% of Minnesotans wear their seat belts, sadly, those who don’t buckle up make up nearly a third of all traffic fatalities.

Know the Law & Stay Safe

Adults:
Minnesota law requires all drivers and passengers to wear seat belts. Ensure the belt is tight across your hips and the shoulder strap is across your chest – never tuck it under your arm or behind your back.

Children:
- Under 2 years: Rear-facing car seats are the safest option.
- Ages 4–9: Use a belt-positioning booster seat until they pass the five-step test.
- Under 13: Children should always sit in the back seat whenever possible.

The Golden Rule:
If a child fits in more than one category, the child must be placed in the more protective category.

A community engagement meeting is being hosted by Council President Elliott Payne and Council Member Chavez regarding their proposed Commercial Pre-Eviction Notice ordinance. This ordinance would require a written notice 30 days prior to the initiation of eviction proceedings for non-payment of rent for commercial tenants. This ordinance already is in existence for residential tenants, with this policy seeking to match.

The meeting will be held on Monday, May 11th from 5:30-7:00pm at the Windom NE Rec Center (2251 Hayes St NE).

Please share this event with any commercial tenants you may know, especially small and immigrant-owned business tenants. Their feedback is critical to the development of this policy, especially in the wake of the damage done during Operation Metro Surge.

From our partners at the City of Minneapolis, Neighborhood & Community Relations Department:

The City of Minneapolis continues to support renters and promote housing stability. Following Operation Metro Surge, the City has committed funds to emergency rental assistance. This investment will:

- Help renters at greatest risk of homelessness
- Prevent evictions before they happen
- Connect residents to these resources through community-based partners

Minneapolis residents having difficulty paying rent may be eligible for this assistance if:

- Their household earns no more than 30% of area median income
- They have received a 30-day pre-eviction filing notice from their landlord

We’re partnering with Hennepin County to distribute the money through Rent Help Hennepin and their network of community-based partners. Minneapolis households seeking this emergency rental assistance can reach out to one of these organizations to get help starting an application.

MnDOT has updated the Priority Areas for Walking Study Score (PAWS) tool (see link below). PAWS is meant as a starting point in decision-making and community content when working to improve walking throughout Minnesota.

PAWS scores may also be useful for:

Evaluating district- and state-level progress on improving conditions for walking.
Scoring active transportation-related applications from local agencies and providing an easy-to-use assessment of equity for local agencies in these applications.
Helping Minnesota communities identify where walking infrastructure improvements can have the highest impact, on or off the trunk highway system.
