OPEN!!!

Great news! Hwy 280 will reopen in both directions Friday morning, Aug. 21..

To prepare for the reopening of Hwy 280, southbound I-35W and westbound Hwy 36 will be reduced to one lane near Hwy 280 from 10 p.m. Thu, Aug. 20 through 5 a.m. Fri, Aug. 21, while crews remove road and ramp closure signs.

**Westbound I-94 ramp to northbound Hwy 280 now one lane**
Crews have reconfigured the ramp from westbound I-94 to northbound Hwy 280 to limit the entrance onto northbound Hwy 280 to one lane. This new configuration enables drivers from both westbound and eastbound I-94 to merge more safely onto northbound Hwy 280. Motorists should stay alert and drive carefully to ensure a safe transition into the new configuration.

**Work during and after the State Fair**
There will be no significant work on Hwy 280, or any ramp or lane closures during the State Fair. After the State Fair, we will limit traffic impacts to short-term lane and ramp closures through the fall. Hwy 280 will remain open to traffic and will not be fully closed again this fall.

**Continue to drive with caution through the area**
As traffic returns to Hwy 280 and traffic signals at cross streets, including Larpenteur Ave., are turned back on, please be vigilant at signals and stop signs — especially at the Como Ave. exit and entrance ramps on Eustis St. and Hunting Valley Rd. — to help keep everyone safe.

COMMUNITY INVITED TO THE MUNICIPAL CONSENT HEARING IN MINNEAPOLIS ON THURSDAY, AUGUST 20

Community members are invited to attend an upcoming public hearing as part of the municipal consent process in Minneapolis for the Central Ave. Northeast project from University Ave. to 37th Ave.

The public hearing will be held as part of the Climate and Infrastructure Committee Meeting at 1:30 p.m. on Thu, Aug. 20, at Minneapolis City Hall, Room 380 located at 350 South 5th St. in Minneapolis.

The Municipal Consent public hearing is part of the formal approval process for the Minneapolis City Council to formally approve or reject the design plans for Central Ave. Northeast. The public can voice their opinions about the project at the public hearing. The road layout will also be available for viewing at the meeting.

There will be a presentation about the Central Ave. Northeast project, followed by an opportunity for the public to provide verbal comments.

With municipal consent, the project moves into the next phase of design.

**More about this project**
MNDOT is collaborating with local agencies and the public to create a new road design for Central Ave. Northeast (Hwy 65) between University Ave. and I-694. As a part of this project, we are working closely with Metro Transit on the integration of the METRO F-Line, a planned bus rapid transit line that will provide improved transit service on the Route 10 corridor.

Construction is scheduled to start in spring 2028 in Columbia Heights and the Minneapolis segment starting in 2029.

Hey Y'all! What a fun night this past Wednesday!! 200+ neighbors showed up, ate up every last morsel and we watched a whole lotta connection happening. One of our most important functions is to bring people together, especially in these times of social isolation, it's more important than ever....but it doesn't work if you're not there.

So THANK YOU for showing up and connecting with one another. We are so happy to see folks talking, grooving, playing, eating and simply seeing one another. Sometimes it just that simple.

And a special thanks to all our friends at Recovery Bike Shop for bringing the Sociable Ride to Windom Park...we hear it was a record with nearly 60 riders! That was special. Thanks again everyone!

We have made the difficult decision to POSTPONE this event due to the Extreme Heat Warning AND Air Quality Warning. It is re-scheduled for Wednesday, July 22, same time/place.

We don't make this decision lightly and hope this allows many more folks to join the festivities. Our sincere apologies for any inconvenience to our neighbors' schedules.

Bell No!! If you're seeing the pretty purple blooms around this week, know that it is likely an invasive called Creeping Bellflower. While very difficult to stop...they have 10,000+ per plant! But together we can slow the spread considerably.

Easiest method is to simply pull them out, bag 'em up and toss in the garbage (it is currently debatable whether the City's commercial composting process will sterilize the seeds or not, possibly leading to furhter spread). For larger patches it is okay to use a string trimmer to cut down the stalks.

We hear ya!!

Many folks have let WPCIA know that Windom Park needs more places to sit & eat, so we worked with Park Commissioner Dan Engelhart and MPRB staff to communicate the need. They understood and....here we have it, new concrete pads with (3) new picnic table sets!

And we're not finished.

We're also advocating for sun shades, additional benches and possibly more indoor space for programming!

** TRANSPORTATION TUESDAYS**

To help keep everyone safe during daily commutes and summer travel, May 11-31, law enforcement agencies across the state will be conducting a statewide seat belt enforcement and awareness campaign. While more than 95% of Minnesotans wear their seat belts, sadly, those who don’t buckle up make up nearly a third of all traffic fatalities.

Know the Law & Stay Safe

Adults:
Minnesota law requires all drivers and passengers to wear seat belts. Ensure the belt is tight across your hips and the shoulder strap is across your chest – never tuck it under your arm or behind your back.

Children:
- Under 2 years: Rear-facing car seats are the safest option.
- Ages 4–9: Use a belt-positioning booster seat until they pass the five-step test.
- Under 13: Children should always sit in the back seat whenever possible.

The Golden Rule:
If a child fits in more than one category, the child must be placed in the more protective category.
