CloseKnit

CloseKnit Our breakthrough approach sees all youth facing homelessness as already loved, including youth from underestimated and under-resourced communities.

Closeknit catalizes system change building a holistic response that overcomes systematic barriers in order to honor and invest in existing chosen family arrangements that prevent youth homelessness. CloseKnit is a 501c3 nonprofit based in Minnesota building a holistic response to youth homelessness that honors and invests in existing “chosen family” arrangements. We work to shift the mindset of policy makers and community partners to champion racially equitable solutions for youth and their caring support networks. Counseling & Treating People of Colour Conference 2026 is a space for learning, connection, and meaningful conversation around counseling, treatment, culture, and community.

Attendees will have opportunities to explore culturally responsive practices, hear perspectives from across the field, strengthen professional knowledge, and identify practical ideas they can bring back to their organizations, teams, and communities.

We’re looking forward to listening, learning, and applying these insights to the work we do with behavioral health and human service organizations.

Feeling incredibly honored and excited as I prepare to present at the National African American Child and Family Research Center (NAACFRC) Community-Engaged Research Conference at Morehouse College School of Medicine in Atlanta.

Morehouse has long stood as a beacon of Black excellence, leadership, scholarship, and social justice. To share research in a space with such a rich legacy of advancing health equity and strengthening communities is truly meaningful.

Today, I’ll be presenting “Creating Home in Community: Rethinking Housing Through Relationships and Stability,” highlighting how chosen family, natural supports, and community relationships can transform our response to youth homelessness.

Grateful for this opportunity to contribute, learn from brilliant colleagues, and continue advancing research that leads to real systems change.
