πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ“œ Apple Creek Time Capsule Project – Celebrating America's 250th Birthday! πŸ“œπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

As our nation prepares to celebrate its 250th year, the Apple Creek Historical Society is creating a **2026 Time Capsule** to preserve a snapshot of life in Apple Creek for future generations!

We are looking for items that answer the question:

πŸ‘‰ "What did Apple Creek look like in 2026?"

Some ideas include:
πŸ“Έ Family photos
πŸŽ“ School yearbooks
🏫 Class / Team photos
πŸ† Championship and sports programs
πŸ” Local restaurant menus
πŸ’Ό Business cards and brochures
πŸ“° Newspaper articles
🎟️ Event flyers and programs
πŸ“± Screenshots of local social media pages
πŸ“ Anything that helps tell the story of our community today!

The Time Capsule will be securely stored in the vault at the Apple Creek Historical Society for future generations to discover.

It is important to note: **The photo here is an AI generated image of a time capsule. This is not the actual time capsule. We will be storing the items in appropriate container(s) in a climate controlled environment (not buried in the ground!)**

πŸ“… Drop-Off Opportunities
Items may be dropped off during our monthly **Second Saturday Open House** (10:00 AM – Noon) on the second Saturday of any month through December.

Can't make it on a Second Saturday? No problem! Simply send us a message here on Facebook and we'll be happy to arrange an alternative drop-off time.

πŸ“ We will ask you to please complete a contribution form for each item submitted so that it can be documented for future generations. Contribution forms will be on hand at the ACHS.

Help us preserve today's Apple Creek for tomorrow's historians. We can't wait to see what pieces of our community you choose to share!

❀️ What a wonderful day at the Apple Creek Historical Society ACHS Touch-A-Truck 2026 event!

As we wrap up another successful year, we want to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who helped make this event possible. Thank you to our sponsors, donors, volunteers, and the many individuals and businesses who generously donated raffle baskets. Thank you to everyone who purchased raffle tickets, helping support the Society while having a chance to take home some amazing prizes.

A special thank you goes out to the ladies who worked tirelessly serving food throughout the day and then stayed to help clean the facility afterward. Your hard work often happens behind the scenes, but it does not go unnoticed.

We're also grateful to the owners and operators who brought their trucks, tractors, emergency vehicles, construction equipment, and other machinery for families to explore. The smiles on the children's faces said it all!

The weather couldn't have been better, and it was wonderful to see so many families, friends, and neighbors enjoying a beautiful day together in Apple Creek.

Events like this are only possible because of the generosity, dedication, and community spirit of so many people. We truly couldn't do it without you, and we are so grateful for your support.

Thank you for helping us preserve the past while creating new memories for the future. We hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did, and we look forward to seeing you again next year!Thank you again to everyone who helped make Touch-A-Truck 2026 a success! πŸš’πŸšœπŸš“πŸŒβ€οΈ

πŸ“Έ A Glimpse into Apple Creek's Past πŸ“Έ

We recently received some wonderful historic photographs from Don Amiet, who shared the following note:

"According to the note on the back of this picture, my grandfather, Carl Amiet, is somewhere in the picture. I believe he is one of the dark-haired boys beneath the window. I don't know the year this was taken, but he was born in 1891."

Thank you, Don, for sharing these treasured pieces of Apple Creek history with us!

As we look at this image, it's fascinating to imagine what life was like in Apple Creek more than a century ago. Children often walked to school, many helping with chores before and after classes. Horses and buggies were the primary means of transportation, electricity was still a novelty in many areas, and the rhythms of daily life revolved around family, farming, church, and community gatherings.

This school once stood at the top of Grange Street, directly across from the old Grange Hall. Many of you may remember our April presentation by John W. Grayson, who shared the rich history of the Grange Hall and its important role in our community. Together, these landmarks helped shape generations of Apple Creek families.

Do you recognize any family names connected to this school? We would love to hear your stories and memories in the comments!

If you have old photographs, documents, or artifacts related to Apple Creek's history, please consider sharing them with the Historical Society. Every photo helps preserve another piece of our community's story for future generations.

πŸš—β›½ Remembering Wynne Peppler and Pep’s Service Station

If you grew up in Apple Creek, chances are you remember the familiar sight (and smell!) of Pep’s Service Station, run by Wynne Peppler.

Pep’s wasn’t just a place to buy gas, it was where stories were swapped, tires were patched, and neighbors caught up on the latest town news while leaning against the counter with a cup of coffee. β˜•

Back in the days of full-service stations, Pep did it all:
βœ”οΈ Pumped your gas
βœ”οΈ Checked your oil
βœ”οΈ Cleaned your windshield
βœ”οΈ Fixed that mysterious rattle under the hood and probably asked how your family was doing while he worked. β™₯️

That’s just how small-town businesses operated... personal, dependable, and built on trust. Peppler’s station became one of those everyday landmarks that helped keep Apple Creek moving literally and figuratively. Farmers, commuters, and teenagers with their first cars all stopped at Pep’s. If your tire was low or your battery dead, Pep was the guy you called.

Service stations like his were often the unofficial β€œtown squares,” where laughter echoed from the garage and local history was shared between oil changes.

Did you know?
We have a wonderful display of photos in our display area highlighting Pep's service to the community! πŸ”§

We love remembering the small businesses and big personalities that shaped our village β€” and Pep’s Station is certainly one of them.

πŸ“£ Do you have photos or memories of Pep’s Service Station or Wynne Peppler?

We’d LOVE to hear your stories and add them to the Apple Creek Historical Society archives. Share them in the comments or message us!
