𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐧 𝐑𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐮 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐋𝐃 𝐁𝐑𝐎𝐍𝐙𝐄 𝐌𝐄𝐃𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐒𝐓! 🇺🇸
Landon battled a seasoned opponent in Zalkarbek Tabaldiev, a U23 World Silver Medalist with significant senior-level experience. Tabaldiev scored first with an activity clock point to lead the match 1-0 into the second period.

At 2:11, Landon battled through a tough position to force a step-out and tie the match at 1-1. Tabaldiev was put on the clock and as Landon was awarded the activity clock point he added another step out point to make it 3-1 with 1:15 remaining.

But Landon never stopped wrestling! He continued to control the hand fight with a strong left-side underhook, kept moving his feet and stayed composed through the final seconds to secure a World Bronze Medal for Team USA!

It’s an incredible accomplishment for a young man who has represented Minnesota/USA Wrestling and the United States with tremendous pride throughout this tournament. His bronze medal also earns valuable team points toward the USA Men’s Freestyle Team title.

We are incredibly proud of you, Landon, and everything you have accomplished on this stage. Well done, young man!

Khalili scored first when Landon was called for passivity and placed on the activity clock, giving Khalili a 1-0 lead at the break.

Landon battled back early in the second period, earning a valuable step-out to tie the match at 1-1 and take the lead on criteria. With 1:32 remaining, Khalili was put on the activity clock and earned the passivity point to take a 2-1 lead with just over a minute remaining.

Khalili then scored a takedown with :42 left to take the lead 3-2. Landon fought but was unable to score again before the final whistle. He will wrestle for a Bronze World Medal tomorrow against either an opponent from Kyrgyzstan or Turkey.

𝐑𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐮 𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐌𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐯 𝟕-𝟒 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝟕𝟎 𝐤𝐠 𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐬.

Merov entered the quarterfinal with momentum after knocking off the #1 seed in the bracket. He scored the first point of the match on a step-out and controlled the center early. At 4:13, Robideau was put on the 30-second activity clock. Unable to score during the period, Landon trailed 2-0 at the break.

Robideau came out aggressively in the second period. With 2:16 remaining, he finally broke through Merov’s head-and-hands defense to score his first takedown and cut the deficit to 2-2. Landon went right back to the left-leg single and scored another takedown with just under two minutes remaining to take his first lead of the match, 4-2. Robideau continued to slow Merov’s offense and earned a step-out to extend the lead to 5-2.

With :47 remaining, Merov closed the gap to 5-4 with a step-out and fleeing call. But Robideau answered immediately, hitting another quality leg attack to take Merov down for the third time and push the lead to 7-4 with :30 remaining. Landon held on through the final seconds to secure the 7-4 victory and advance to the 70 kg semifinals.

Robideau will face Iran’s Sina Khalili, the 2025 U23 World runner-up and 2023 U17 World Champion, in the semifinals. Action begins at 10:00 a.m. local time.

𝐑𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐮 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝟏𝟓-𝟓 𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝-𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭.

Landon was put on the activity clock at the 4:00 mark, but answered with a nice drop-down leg attack to take a 2-1 lead at the break. At 2:19, the Mongolian wrestler was put on the activity clock. Following a challenge that resulted in two red and two blue points, the score moved to 4-3 in Landon’s favor.

Robideau came back firing with a quick takedown followed by a gut wrench to open up an 8-3 lead. Altangerel answered with a takedown to cut the lead to 8-5, but Landon continued to push the pace. With Altangerel in desperation mode late in the bout, Robideau closed it out with a series of scores to secure the 15-5 victory to advance to the quarterfinals where he will face Russia's Mairbek Merov.

Landon Robideau opened his U20 World Championships with a dominant 12-1 victory over Zurab Abalaki of Georgia in the round of 32.

Robideau scored the match’s first takedown at 4:51 after a tough hand fight led into his signature front-head series. Georgia later earned a step-out point after successfully challenging an initial takedown call in Robideau’s favor. Robideau responded with some nice leg attacks to take a 4-1 lead into the break.

Robideau came out quickly in the second period, scoring a takedown just five seconds in. He continued to pressure Abalaki with his snap-and-go-behind attacks, steadily wearing down his opponent. Robideau finished it with a four-point feet-to-back double leg to close out the 12-1 victory at the 2:18 mark.

Next up: Enkh Erdene Altangerel (Mongolia). Altangerel brings significant international experience into the next round. He placed seventh at the 2024 U20 World Championships and 15th at the 2023 U17 World Championships. More recently, he earned a third-place finish at the 2026 U23 Asian Championships.
