Statehouse Update β HB199
Today, Linda Pdot and I ( Karen Fluhart )had the privilege of representing not just ourselves, but communities from across Ohio at the Statehouse as we met with Representative Kevin Miller and his legislative team regarding HB199.
We were honored to share the story of how this grassroots effort came together and to present the information that so many of you helped us gather over the past several months. We left behind information packets, petition data, and examples of the confusion Ohio residents continue to face regarding street-legal SxS/UTV operation.
Over the course of this effort, volunteers and supporters from across Ohio helped us collect and review a total of 1,744 petition entries. Through our volunteer-led review process, we identified 1,645 completed and countable petition signatures, representing support from citizens in at least 33 Ohio counties. In addition, our outreach, community involvement, and social media engagement connected us with supporters from approximately 65 of Ohio's 88 counties.
One of the biggest takeaways from today's meeting is that your voice matters. Legislative support is built one constituent at a time, and lawmakers want to hear directly from the people who live, work, and vote in their districts.
If HB199 is important to you, we encourage you to reach out to your own state representatives and senators. Tell them: β’ What street-legal SxS/UTV access means to you and your family. β’ How it benefits your community and local businesses. β’ How it supports tourism and economic growth. β’ If you own a business, farm, or work in an industry that would benefit, share your story and perspective.
We also discussed the importance of demonstrating the positive economic impact and revenue opportunities that responsible SxS/UTV access can bring to Ohio communities. This effort has never been about simply wanting to rideβit has always been about clear and consistent statewide understanding, supporting local communities, and creating opportunities for responsible recreation and economic growth.
If you would like to contact your local officials but are not sure where to start, or if you need help finding contact information for your specific town, township, county, or legislative district, please reach out to Linda or me. We will gladly help point you in the right direction.
The petition effort helped open the door and demonstrate statewide support. Now we need Ohio constituents to help carry the message forward. We cannot continue moving this effort ahead without your voices, your stories, and your continued support.
The meeting may be over, but the work isn't. We took your voices to Columbusβnow we need Ohio to keep speaking up. Let's keep the momentum going and show what this means for our communities across the state. Thank you all for the support, encouragement, and prayers. We couldn't have done this without you! πβ€οΈπβ€οΈπΊπΈ
