Join the Maker Cities Program: a fully funded 6-month course that empowers 20 participants with certifications in advanced manufacturing, design thinking, and entrepreneurship while building a civic placemaking project on Lincoln Road. The future of American manufacturing depends on strong local communities, where leading companies, industry experts and students convene to learn, share ideas and shape the next generation of talent. So says Liam Fortier, manufacturing engineer at Lockheed Martin and secretary general of SME DFW Chapter 51, which won SME's 2026 Professional Chapter of the Year Award.

"To design a forward-looking strategy, we started with a simple step: listening directly to our community," Fortier writes. "We surveyed members to ask exactly what they wanted from their chapter. The data pointed to three foundational pillars: tours, training and networking."

Created by Mario “The Maker” Cruz in 2016, the Poem-o-matic is a receipt machine that prints out short poems. At the touch of a button, the machine randomly chooses a poem from its database, which is made up of student and resident poems from the O, Miami archive, and prints it within seconds.
