Did you know that the first passion of Noel Suarez (photographed here with his darling Petra) was ballet? His talent for drawing, however, earned him admission to Havana’s prestigious Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes San Alejandro.

While performing as a professional ballet dancer, Noel also designed sets and costumes for the companies with which he worked, blending visual art with performance. At age 30, he retired from ballet to devote himself entirely to painting.

Deeply inspired by Tamara de Lempicka, a master of Art Deco figurative Cubism, Noel developed a distinctive artistic voice of his own. His work has been commissioned by private and corporate collectors, including Absolut Vodka and the cities of Boston, Miami and Miami Beach.

The Miami Design Preservation League is proud to present “Noel Suarez: Artist in Residence,” a five-part public exhibition series celebrating the nearly 40-year creative journey of one of Miami Beach’s pioneer artists.

The residency kicks off with an official opening on Thursday, June 4, from 6–9 p.m. at the Art Deco Welcome Center, 1001 Ocean Drive on Miami Beach.

Join us for an evening immersed in Noel’s spectacular artwork and learn more about this one-of-a-kind residency. See you on Thursday!

The Collins Park Hotel at 2000 Park Ave. was originally designed by Henry Hohauser. Can you guess the 1995 movie starring Will Smith, Martin Lawrence and Téa Leoni that filmed at this building?
