One year of leadership. One year of vision. One year of moving the Urban League of Greater Miami forward.

Today, we celebrate the first anniversary of our President & CEO, Dr. Makeda Johnson, and the historic significance of her leadership as the first woman to serve this affiliate in this role.

Under her leadership, we continue to honor where we've come from while building toward where we're going – rooted in Legacy, Leadership, Lift. Our theme for this year and our five-year strategic plan, these words reflect a commitment to honoring our history, leading with purpose, and creating greater opportunities for our community to rise.

As we celebrate this milestone, we recognize not only the past year, but the vision, courage, and leadership shaping the next chapter of the Urban League of Greater Miami.

Here's to one year of leadership – and to the legacy we are building together.

Can’t stop thinking about

Nashville gave our team the chance to step outside of our usual day-to-day, experience new things, meet new people, explore a new city, and make memories together.

Between the conference, the laughs, the experiences, and everything in between, we came home with new perspectives — and an even stronger bond as a team.

Today is Primary Election Day in Florida. If you’re voting today, here are a few important reminders:

📍 Vote at your assigned precinct. Make sure you’re heading to the polling location assigned to you.

🕖 In line by 7 PM? You can still vote. If you’re in line before the polls close at 7 PM, stay in line – you can still cast your ballot.

🗳️ Florida is a closed-primary state: You must be registered with a political party to vote in that party’s primary.

As we begin a new school year, let’s take a look back at the 2026 We Rise Reads Summer Camp! 📚☀️

This summer, our campers spent their days reading, learning, creating, exploring, and building confidence — all while making memories and growing together.

Every day, our campers began with a simple reminder of who they are and what they are capable of:

✨ “I am kind. I am capable. I am brave. I can learn. I can lead. I can rise… to infinity!” ✨

And rise they did! From the classroom to new experiences beyond it, our campers had a summer filled with opportunities to learn, discover, create, and have fun.

As they head into a new school year, we hope they carry those lessons — and that affirmation — with them. Because when you know you are kind, capable, and brave, there’s no limit to how far you can rise.
