Collins Park News
W Hotel update
There has been a lot of discussion with the plans the Reuben Brothers have submitted on behalf of the W Hotel to update the property. To be clear, the Reuben Brothers are the owners of the property and Marriott, under the W brand, operates the property. Currently there are other flags being considered to manage the property and elevate it to a six star brand that would compliment Bvlgari who will be opening its first hotel in the United State on the Southside of Collins Park on the ocean at 21st Street. With this in mind, it is my opinion that a six star hotel will not be doing anything that will put neighbors in an uproar. They will 100% want to be a good neighbor just like any other upscale property.
Something I learned yesterday is there is a dinner club where the old Wall Nightclub use to be. It’s a pop up Called Mary Lou’s and is decorated just like a speakeasy from the 1920’s. I can’t wait to try it and have reservations for June 12th. It is only operating on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and I can’t wait to check it out. You should all consider checking it out. It’s only temporary through the end of July. Check it out at www.Mary-lous.com

No infomercial next week
I will be out of town June 3rd-8th on my annual trip to NYC. I’m going with my friend Harvey to celebrate his birthday and see 5 Broadway Plays.

This is Memorial Day Weekend with the Air and Sea Show!
Everything is listed below under events.

Collins Park News
The Rotunda received a preservation award from the State of Florida
The Florida Trust awarded the Bass Rotunda in Collins Park with the 2026 Historic Preservation Award in the category of Conservation, Preservation, Maintenance and Repair for the historic conservation of the Albert Vrana panels on the rotunda. This award is because the City hired VAS Art Production to undertake this challenging restoration project. They did it masterfully as an artistic labor of love and the Rotunda is now prepared to serve this community as a historic landmark for the next 100 years. Bravo to all involved with this amazing undertaking.

Summary of the CPNA Membership meeting, 5-19-26.
First a heartfelt thank you to Steven Mandell and the Marseilles Hotel for hosting us and supplying a lovely and filling buffet with refreshments including wine. Mayor Steven Meiner was there along with aides for Joseph Magazine and Tanya Bhatt. Joe Sanchez who is running for district 5 for the country commission attended and was introduced to the members. Remember, in March, Vicki Lopez spoke and is the current appointed commissioner. That election will take place in August. We got an update from Miami New Drama on the Cultural Arts Center they are building in the garage. The green light is finally on and with design, board approvals and permitting, it will take approximately 2 1/2 years to open. So hopefully late fall 2028.
We also had an update on the Barclay Plaza project. This will be the second workforce housing project in our neighborhood. The first was the Anamar on 23rd Street which is 100% occupied. It is interesting on how workforce housing is so desperately needed but for the first time in several years, we have furnished studio apartments at the Mantell plaza that are vacant starting at $1600 including WiFi and utilities. Usually there is a waiting list. The Barclay goes for its final approval at the July Commission meeting and we hope to have it fast tracked after that.
Finally, we discussed the proposal upgrading the W Hotel by the new owners that will probably include a flag change that was not discussed. What came out of that meeting as being the major concern for the neighbors was the fact we don’t know how to control noise or how to measure it. The real problem is not the actual noise level but the base that has low frequency and shakes the ground and everything around it. CPNA will now try to address this with the City and figure out how to measure and control this. There should be a simple 311 # to call to get a quick response like you would from the police or fire rescue. Currently calling code compliance has a long response time and the problem does not get properly addressed. Legal council for the W was there and took note of this concern.
Thank you to all the residents who attended. Next membership meeting will be July 21st at a place yet to be determined.

Today is Culture Crawl. Check out the events below.

Last chance to honor Harvey at the Woman’s Club this Sunday.
Harvey is the vice president of the Collins Park Neighborhood Association and founder of Miamiartzine.
Come on and join me. It would cost you more than $50 to get a drink, crepes and a piece of cake making this the best deal in town plus you get lite bites and a dance performance too! So even consider a larger donation. Dance Now Miami is a great dance company and I’m pleased to be on their advisory Board od Directors.

The Collins Park Neighborhood Association is Hosting a membership meeting on May 19th at the Marselles Hotel at 6:30PM
The W Hotel is proposing to add a valet to the north entrance at 23rd Street and to add a private membership club. The Roney board has asked us to allow a presentation from Dennis Wedlick. Representatives from the W will also be present for discussion. We all know the traffic issues with Collins Ave and 23rd Street, so this will be an important meeting. We plan to have updates on the Collins Park Cultural Arts Center from Miami New Drama and an update on the Barclay Project. So if you live, work, or play in the Collins Park Neighborhood, join us in the Marseilles Ballroom overlooking their pool on the first floor. They will be providing lite bites and refreshments. Hope to see you all there.

Finally a chance to meet the cops in our neighborhood.
At La Vie Belle 9AM on May 27th, 334 20th Street. Don’t forget to register.
