Surfrider Foundation Miami Chapter Nonprofit dedicated to the protection & enjoyment of the world’s ocean, waves & beaches.

The Surfrider Foundation's Miami Chapter was started by Wyatt Porter Brown and T.C in 1997, to begin pressing the City of Miami Beach to enforce existing litter laws and reverse the trashing of our local beaches.

Our latest Blue Water Task Force (BWTF) report is now available for samples collected on October 15, 2026. The Blue Water Task Force (BWTF) is the Surfrider Foundation’s volunteer water quality monitoring program that provides critical water quality information to protect public health at local beaches.

🧪About our BWTF testing:
Water quality samples are tested for the presence of enterococcus, a f***l bacteria that indicates the presence of human or animal waste in the water. Elevated levels of enterococcus increase the likelihood that other pathogens may be present that can make people sick.

– These results reflect a snapshot of conditions during our testing window every Thursday.
– Does not include testing for chemicals, heavy metals, or other contaminants.
– Testing procedure/analysis follows EPA standards for safe recreation.

Our latest Blue Water Task Force (BWTF) report is now available for samples collected on October 15, 2026. Proud to celebrate Miami Beach’s Coastal Guardians at Sustainable Luxury Wellness Resort in Miami Beach. 🌊💙

At the 9th Miami Climate Leaders Happy Hour, Christi and Amanda were honored alongside our friends Adam from Blue Scholars Initiative, Rodrigo from Plastic Fisherman Global, and Sophie and Jennifer from CLEAN MIAMI BEACH.

Restoration is climate action. 🌾🌊

This past weekend Surfrider Miami volunteers showed up for Miami Beach’s dunes during Climate Week. Together we removed invasive plants and made space for native species that strengthen our coastline against erosion and sea level rise.

Surfrider Miami continues to monitor the REEFLINE project off Miami Beach. 🌊

Native Hawaiian artist Kaili Chun will create a new underwater sculpture called The Sea Remembers, inspired by rays native to South Florida. The installation is planned for deployment off Miami Beach between 74th and 76th Streets in 2027.

Additionally the Heart of Okeanos installation is planned for December 2026 near the existing car installation, off 4th and 5th Streets Streets, Miami Beach

It is officially Surfrider Climate Week and we are excited to be part of it. 🌊🌿

Our coastline is on the front lines of climate change and we are not standing still. This week Surfrider Miami is joining chapters across the country to spotlight the work that protects our coast.

Swipe through to see the difference between a healthy coast and an armored one, and why dune restoration matters more than ever.

🌱 Healthy: Coastal ecosystems buffer wave energy and support beach dynamics naturally. Native plants allow beaches to grow and contract with the seasons.

🪨 Armored: Hard structures like seawalls restrict natural coastal change. Coastal squeeze occurs when the back of the beach is pinned in place, resulting in beach loss.

When we restore and protect our dunes, we build a more resilient future for Miami Beach and the communities behind it.
