Peer Power East High School graduate Charlie McVean founded the program in 2004. The program was an immediate success and swiftly evolved into Peer Power.

Peer Power is a non-profit organization that recruits high-performing high school and college students to tutor younger public school students in a variety of subjects to improve their standardized test scores and college or job readiness. A successful entrepreneur and dedicated philanthropist, Charlie had grown increasingly troubled by the poor performance of his hometown’s public schools and bel

ieved that the American free enterprise system held the remedy. Combining a performance-based compensation model with the powerful effects of peer groups, he launched his unique student-to-student tutoring method at East.

At ACT Boot Camp, our students strengthened their skills, practiced test-taking strategies, and gained the confidence needed to approach the ACT with a new mindset.

We're beyond proud of the growth, determination, and commitment demonstrated throughout this year's ACT Boot Camp. 🎉.

Congratulations to the inaugural graduating class of University High School, who crossed the stage yesterday evening! We'd also like to particularly highlight graduating seniors, Anthony Brewer Jr. and John Lexington Griffin III, who both received the Parish Griffins Peer Power Scholarship! This scholarship is named after Dr. Sally Parish, Vice Provost & Director of Schools, and Kerrith Griffin, Chief of Staff. We are so happy we were able to share this momentous occasion with the University Schools and the University of Memphis!
