Star Party and Telescope Viewing
Date & Time: May 8, 2026, 7:30 PM
Location: Off of Williams Highway near Murphy
Join us for a relaxed and memorable evening under the dark skies of Southern Oregon!
If you’ve never looked through a telescope before or you’ve always been curious about what’s “up there,” this event, hosted by Joshua Copen Astrophotography, is designed to be welcoming, easygoing, and genuinely awe-inspiring.
Throughout the evening, you’ll have the chance to view a variety of celestial objects through multiple telescopes. These range from a large Dobsonian reflector—perfect for bright, detailed views of the Moon, planets, and distant galaxies—to a fully equipped astrophotography setup that captures stunning deep-sky objects in near real-time. You’ll get to see things like star clusters, nebulae, and galaxies that are completely invisible to the naked eye.
In addition, we’ll have two dedicated setups using cameras for Electronically Assisted Astronomy (EAA). These systems will display live views of deep-sky objects on a monitor and/or projector, making it easy for everyone to enjoy detailed, real-time images together—no eyepiece required.
We’ll also take time to walk through the night sky together, pointing out constellations, sharing stories behind them, and helping you learn how to find your way among the stars on your own.
This is a great opportunity to slow down, connect with others, and experience the universe in a way that’s both accessible and unforgettable.
