Help Preserve a Piece of Fauquier County History!
The historic Ashville Community Cemetery near Marshall, dating back to at least 1873, is the final resting place of generations of African American community members, including veterans of four American wars. Long overgrown and largely inaccessible, this important burial ground is finally getting the attention it deserves.
Ashville Preservation Foundation is hosting volunteer cemetery cleanup days on Saturday, November 7 and Saturday, November 14, to clear overgrowth, uncover forgotten graves, and begin restoring this historic site.
The Gott Library encourages our community to support this important preservation effort!
History deserves to be remembered.
