STANDING RESOLUTION OF COCHRAN LODGE NO. 271 A.F. & A.M.

WHEREAS, Freemasonry commands us to climb the steps of the seven liberal arts and sciences, and

WHEREAS, Worshipful Brother Karel Eekels has been a key contributor to our Lodge’s education and library for many years, and

WHEREAS, Brother Eekels has personally donated many books from his library to assist in the path of learning for current and future Brethren,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Members of Cochran Lodge No. 271 A.F. & A.M do hereby declare their intent to honor Brother Eekels by naming the Library at Cochran Lodge the KAREL EEKELS MASONIC LIBRARY.

Cochran Lodge returned to the George Washington Masonic National Memorial today for Presidents Day and the 100th Anniversary of the Cornerstone Laying Ceremony in 1923 where John T. Cochran himself stood beside President Calvin Coolidge as Grand Junior Deacon on the original date.

Brethren of Cochran Lodge, please see the Grand Lodge event posted for the 100th anniversary commemorating the dedication at the cornerstone laying ceremony for the George Washington Masonic Memorial in Alexandria, VA on February 20, 2023.

You can see MW John Twohig Cochran photographed below at the original event 100 years ago! Apparently he was photobombed by US President Calvin Coolidge, but it ended up being a great photo regardless 😉
