Marion Public Library has announced an exciting new program beginning in September. Can't wait to see the book selections and find out the details!

An exciting chapter is beginning at the library this fall! 📣

We're excited to introduce The Big Marion Read, a community-wide reading initiative that brings people together through the shared experience of a great story. Readers of all ages will have opportunities to explore this year’s selection through engaging discussions, special events, and unique programs designed to inspire connection, conversation, and curiosity.

We’re also proud to announce that the Marion Public Library Foundation has been awarded a National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Big Read grant in support of this program. The NEA Big Read, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest, helps communities come together through reading, discussion, and meaningful engagement with literature. Additional support for The Big Marion Read is generously provided by the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Marion Public Library Foundation, and the Friends of the Marion Public Library, Iowa.

Stay tuned for the reveal of this year’s book selection, upcoming program details, and more ways to participate. In the meantime, mark your calendars for Saturday, September 12, as we kick off The Big Marion Read together!

Remember the excitement of book fairs when you were in school? The Marion Public Library is recreating that experience with a Grown-Up Book Fair on Saturday, May 2 from 10:00 - 3:00. Vendors including local businesses and independent book sellers will be there. The Friends will be there, too with membership information and Friends merch for sale including mugs, book bags and decorated book bundles. Don't miss this event!

Our spring book sale was a huge success thanks to all our friends and neighbors who stopped by and bought books, puzzles, book art and bakery goodies. We appreciate your continued support of the Friends and the MPL. We hope to see you again at our next sale in July.

Our book sale is this weekend: Friday, April 17 - Sunday, April 19th.

Friends of the Marion Public Library will be promoting our Book Sale on Channel 9 KCRG "Every Day Iowa" segment at 9:20 AM, Thursday, April 16, 2026.

We are excited to announce we have 3,000 + books donated for this book sale.
Our sale will include: Adult fiction, mystery, non-fiction, cookbooks, children's literature books, teen chapter books, board books, recycled book art and puzzles!

Bake Sale on Saturday, as well!
