The Helping Hands store is located in the MIssion House which we share with the Churches of Marion Pantry! The Helping Hands Store was started in 1968 and is one of the missions of the First Presbyterian Church of Marion. The Helping Hands Store is located in the Mission House building which is behind the church and is shared with the Churches of Marion Food Pantry. The Helping Hands Store gives
away gently used clothing, shoes, blankets, sheets, towels and miscellaneous items to individuals and families. We are open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-3 p.m. We are closed on holidays and if local schools are closed because of snow. New patrons are asked to bring a referral from the Churches of Marion Food Pantry, HACAP or a social services agency. When patrons come into the store, they are asked to check in and then they may shop once a month. The Helping Hands Store operates through the dedication and hard work of many volunteers. The volunteers welcome the patrons, sort and place donations in the appropriate location and remove any items that are stained or torn. The clothes that are unusable are donated to the Salvation Army or Goodwill and they send them to a recycling center where they are turned into fibers for new products. If you have any items that you would like to donate, please bring them to the outside double doors of the Helping Hands Store on Tuesday and Thursday from 1-3 p.m. Please knock on the door and someone will help you. You may also bring your donations to the First Presbyterian Church during business hours. There is a large blue wooden box inside the north (alley side) entryway marked "Helping Hands Store" for that purpose. The items that we do not take are; bed pillows, used underwear, appliances, furniture, baby furniture (strollers, high chairs, baby beds, etc.) If you have any questions, please click "send message" and we will try to get the information that you need as soon as possible!
