TrueNorth Greater Cedar Rapids Open The TrueNorth Greater Cedar Rapids Open is held each year in July. It is Iowa's second largest professional golf tournament.

The TrueNorth Greater Cedar Rapids Open (GCRO) was created in 1999 thanks to the incredible efforts of Mark Lemon and Jim McPartland. The first year of the tournament included an entry field of 54 professionals and 96 amateurs who played at both St. Andrews Golf Course and Hunters Ridge Golf Course. The weather did not cooperate and it rained off and on throughout the tournament. But this did not

dampen the enthusiasm and caliber of play. Thanks to the extraordinary GCRO volunteers, the inaugural tournament finished successfully with satisfied players and equally satisfied charitable organizations who were the beneficiaries of more than $8,000 raised during the inaugural tournament. In the years since that inaugural tournament, local charities have received more than $140,000. In 2001, the GCRO crowned Cedar Rapids native Zach Johnson as its champion. Johnson went on to excel on the PGA Tour and claimed the 2007 Masters title.

Congratulations to our 2023 champion, Dawson Jones, who shot a 17-under-par 199 for the tournament claiming the $30,000 first-place prize. Dawson is a native of New Jersey and now makes his home in North Palm Beach, Florida.

The pairings and tee times are set for Saturday morning's 3rd and final round of the 2023 TrueNorth GRCO. Storms rolled through tonight, but the weather for Saturday looks fantastic with forecasted temperatures in the low 70s for the first tee time at 7:30 a.m. The final group will tee off at 9:40 a.m, so head on over to Hunter's Ridge Golf Course in Marion, Iowa to watch some great golf.

This morning's round of golfers are finishing up and scores are being posted. Tournament co-director Jim McPartland is keeping things running smoothly, and Hunter's Ridge Pro Nate Severin has the course in great shape.

The cloud cover is helping keep the heat down this afternoon as the last group of golfers started their round at 1:25. The tournament runs through Saturday, so come out and watch these future PGA stars!
