A Purposeful Life Animal Rescue & Sanctuary

A Purposeful Life Animal Rescue & Sanctuary A Purposeful Life Animal Rescue & Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal welfare organization.

Our goal is to serve as a companion animal Rescue and Sanctuary. We are working hard to gain the ability to maintain an adoption guarantee organization, which means all dogs and cats will remain in our care until we have found their forever home. If we are unable to find a permanent home for any animal within our care, we will consider our organization their permanent residence, allowing them to live out their lives in a loving and enriching environment.

🌸 Prim is HOME! 🌸

The little girl who stole so many hearts has officially stolen two more 💕

Prim has found her mom and dad, and a home where she’ll be loved forever 🏡 They’re already head over heels for her and can’t wait to teach her all the things, cheer her on as she grows, and spoil her with a lifetime of love and adventures.

Happy life, sweet Prim. You are so incredibly deserving ✨

Our sweet Baby Girl (and that is EXACTLY what she is) is recovering beautifully after her mammary tumor removal surgery on Tuesday 🤍

Baby had three tumors removed, and our vet is confident they got them all! With her bloodwork looking great and those tumors now behind her, Baby is healthy, healing well, and will soon be ready to search for the forever home she deserves 🏡

Please share her story. Somewhere out there is someone who would love to give a senior dog the love, comfort, and dignity she deserves for the rest of her days.

Happy National Rescue Dog Day 🤍

Today, we want to introduce you to a beautiful little girl with a brand new beginning.

Meet Primrose — “Prim” for short 🌼

This sweet 5-month-old Great Pyrenees/Australian Shepherd mix found herself at a veterinary clinic because her family felt they had run out of options. With a child in the home with special needs, the normal puppy energy and chaos became overwhelming, and they feared euthanasia was their only solution.

Thankfully, Prim’s veterinarian offered another path. A chance. A rescue. A future.

Now, Prim is safe in a wonderful foster home where her true personality is already shining bright. Her foster mom has this to say about her:

“She is doing great with both dogs and cats so far! Seems to be great on leash and she is SUCH a sweet, loving girl. I can’t wait to find a great home for her. She will be a great dog for somebody!”

And we couldn’t agree more 🥹

Prim is gentle, affectionate, and soaking up the love of her new life. She’s learning that the world is safe, that humans can be kind, and that she deserves to be here.

Prim is:
✨ Up to date on vaccinations
✨ Microchipped
✨ On preventatives
✨ Dog and cat friendly
✨ Adoptable with a spay agreement

As a giant breed mix, Prim will need to wait until she’s a bit older before being spayed so she can grow into the healthy, beautiful girl she’s meant to be.

On National Rescue Dog Day, we’re reminded that rescue is not just about saving lives. It’s also about giving dogs like Prim the opportunity to truly live the life they deserve.

Now all she needs is a forever family to love her for the rest of her happily ever after 🤍

💓 Baby Girl update! 💓

This week was a good week for our sweet girl! On Monday, she saw our vet, got a full blood panel done, got her mammary tumors checked and a chest X-ray and started her antibiotics for her UTI.

The best news? Her chest X-rays show no evidence of metastasization and her bloodwork looks great! 👏🏼👏🏼

She has already shown us she’s feeling better, taking care of her UTI. She’s not having as many accidents, not straining to urinate, and playing like she’s 4 again! (Our vet actually questions her approximate age as he says she’s in great health)!

On Thursday, our great friends at Uptown Paws gave her the best spa day a girl could ask for. Just look at these photos! We’re so grateful to have the relationship we do with the ladies at Uptown. They are always willing to get our foster babes in and go above and beyond for what we consider the best bonding moment with any newbie. That first bath! 🛁

We will be scheduling Baby Girl’s tumor removals next week, after she finishes up with her antibiotics!

If your heart is called to contribute to this life changing surgery for her, we sure could use the help. There are a few ways you can do so.

Yesterday, a very special girl took her first step toward calm, love, and dignity 💕

Please help us welcome 12 ½-year-old “Fat Girl” to the APL family (yes, that truly is her name). For now, her incredible foster momma is calling her Baby Girl, and we think that suits her perfectly.

Baby Girl wasted no time showing us her sweet spirit. Despite everything she’s been through, she is quite literally the happiest girl. Her favorite thing in the world? Endless belly rubs, and she will gladly take all you have to offer!

We did notice she was urinating frequently and having a few accidents, so we had a sample checked today. As suspected, she’s dealing with a pretty gnarly UTI. We also know she has at least one lower-chain mammary tumor. She’ll have a full and thorough exam first thing Monday morning.

We’re realistic about what this could mean, but right now our focus is on making sure she feels safe, comfortable, and deeply loved.

Baby Girl came to our friends at Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control as a stray with a microchip. That chip led back to her previous family. Calls were made. Messages were left. Letters were sent. They tried again and again… but no one ever came for her 😞 She sat at the shelter for over a month.

We couldn’t stand by and let her continue to deteriorate in that environment so now, she has a warm bed. A quiet home. A foster sister just as sweet as her. And all the love she’s been yearning for.

Most importantly, she is safe.

We’ll keep you updated on her journey. For now, please keep this beautiful soul in your thoughts as she begins this next chapter 🙏🏼

🤍 A Gentle Landing for a Very Good Girl 🤍

At 12.5 years old, this sweet soul has found herself in a place no senior dog should be.
A shelter.

She’s known as “Fat Girl”….but we know her next chapter deserves a name filled with dignity and kindness. A fresh start for a girl who has given so much in her lifetime.

She has been diagnosed with mammary cancer and will be undergoing surgery to remove her tumor. Because of her age and prognosis, we are looking for a hospice foster. Someone with a soft heart and a quiet home to help her feel safe, loved, and at peace through whatever time she has left.

And oh….she is so worth it ✨

She’s an absolute doll! Gentle, affectionate, and incredibly sweet. She melts into the floor for belly rubs, soaking up every bit of love she can get. She did beautifully in her dog and cat tests, showing us she’s just happy to coexist and experience kindness.

What she needs now isn’t much. Just a warm bed, a calm space, and someone willing to love her through this final chapter.

We know it’s not easy to open your heart knowing goodbye is part of the journey….but hospice fosters are some of the most meaningful gifts we can give. You’re not just giving her a place to stay. You’re giving her comfort, dignity, and love when she needs it most.

🙏🏼 Can you be her safe place?

If you’re able to foster, please reach out. Let’s give this sweet girl the ending she deserves, surrounded by love, not shelter walls.
