This month, we celebrate the Hispanic and Latino members of the Breakthrough community and recognize the generations of people whose creativity, resilience, leadership, and contributions have helped shape the country we know today.

We are excited to have welcomed Dr. Eilidh AB Hall to the team this week as Breakthrough’s eighth Executive Director! Eilidh brings experience in education, public policy, diplomacy, and nonprofit leadership on both sides of the Atlantic. “I’m so happy to join Breakthrough Manchester and to be part of a community so deeply committed to educational equity. One of my favorite writers, Gloria Anzaldúa, talks about doing work that matters -- and this is work that matters. Throughout my career, I’ve seen the difference that opportunity, encouragement, and sustained support can make in a young person’s life.”

Breakthrough Manchester's week was packed with teaching, learning, and CELEBRATION! We celebrated 35 years for Breakthrough on Thursday evening with friends and families from Breakthrough's past, present, and future. The week culminated with Breakthrough Olympics! College Teams competed in visionary, scholarly, and resilient activities inclduning an Upcycle Fashion Show, Field games like tug-of-war, and Breakthrough Jeopardy. Olympics dinner with themed tables and many fun challenges for our Teaching Fellows was the perfect way to close out this action-packed week!

This past Friday, Breakthrough Manchester spent the day exploring Boston! Our 7th graders visited Emmanuel College and explored the beautiful Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. The 8th grade toured Boston University before getting a behind-the-scenes sports tour of TD Garden . Meanwhile, our 9th graders explored Harvard University University and the Harvard Museum of Natural History

For many of our Scholars, riding the MBTA was a first-time experience, adding even more excitement to a day filled with learning and discovery. Every advisory also took on our annual Paperclip Challenge, where students start with a single paperclip and trade their way up while practicing communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and the confidence to step outside their comfort zones.

From navigating a new city to exploring college campuses and connecting with members of the community, it was a day full of growth, curiosity, and unforgettable memories. 💙💛
