Heidy lost both of her parents at just 14 years old. She later left Nicaragua and crossed the border into northern Costa Rica, determined to build her own future.

Today, at age 29, she lives in the community of Nueva Esperanza in Upala. There she met her husband Ademar, an Indigenous Huetar artist, from whom she learned to create hand-carved and hand-painted artisan pieces.

The $2,000 productive microloan Heidy received from Mi Crédito a year ago was a turning point. It was her first time accessing credit. Since then, sales have increased by 50%, enabling her to fill more orders. She sells her art and crafts through wholesale channels, supplying souvenirs to shops in beach towns and Costa Rica’s capital city.

In 2025, WCCN began its partnership with Friendship Bridge, a non-profit organization that serves more than 27,000 indigenous Mayan women in rural Guatemala.

Founded in 1998, Friendship Bridge uses a model called “Microcredit Plus,” which combines access to credit with education, culturally appropriate healthcare, and business support. Most clients are reached through Trust Banks, community-based solidarity groups whose members act as mutual guarantors, enabling women with no collateral or credit history to access credit.

In 2025 alone, Friendship Bridge disbursed more than 39,000 loans and served more than 27,900 active clients. Beyond financing, over 21,000 clients received financial literacy and business training, more than 7,500 received hands-on agricultural coaching, and more than 29,000 took part in community well-being sessions on health, self-esteem, and women’s empowerment.

Alongside Friendship Bridge, WCCN partners with more than 30 local organizations to create opportunities for low-income microentrepreneurs and their families across Latin America.

Back in 2010, WCCN became one of FACES' earliest international supporters. Today, +15 years later, we are honored to highlight our ongoing partnership in our .

Founded in 1991, FACES Microfinanzas is an Ecuadorian nonprofit dedicated to fighting poverty and creating opportunities for underserved microentrepreneurs. Rather than relying on rigid credit histories, they visit their borrowers to understand their businesses firsthand and responsibly extend credit to unbanked entrepreneurs who would otherwise be excluded from traditional finance.

In 2025 alone, FACES disbursed more than 17,500 loans and served more than 25,700 active clients (54% women, 70% living in rural areas). Beyond financing, the organization pairs credit with business training, financial education, and technical support focused on climate-smart agriculture.

Alongside FACES, WCCN partners with more than 30 local organizations to create opportunities for low-income microentrepreneurs and their families across Latin America.

This week, WCCN is joining the 7th in Lima, Peru 🇵🇪 One of the most important gatherings for gender-lens investing in Latin America, bringing together investors, leaders, and changemakers working toward a more just and equitable future.

One of the highlights: our Executive Director, Will Harris, will be joining fellow leaders on the panel “Rewriting the Rules of Money,” a conversation about how financial services can better respond to women’s financial behaviors, economic decisions, and life trajectories.
