For most of us, a dental hygienist will tell us to “open wide” during our regular visits to the dentist. While some may dread dental appointments, we really should appreciate the availability of dental care in America. This is not true for most Africans, including Ugandans.

I first met Ruth Umurungi in 2019 on a trip to a fistula hospital in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Ruth acted as our translator and has been a friend of WE International ever since. In 2021, she joined WE International on a trek to Mt. Everest Base Camp.
