Tick control strategies have been demonstrated to reduce the density of infected ticks, and thus tick-borne disease risk. However, it is often challenging to assess which strategy is the most cost-effective or how their effectiveness changes based on the ecological or climate setting. Tick population dynamics models offer powerful tools to assess questions like these that would be difficult, costly, or infeasible to test empirically. This presentation will demonstrate such applications, while also addressing the inherent limitations of using theoretical models to answer real-world ecological questions.
