UPDATE: Note from the Madison Health Department Regarding the Boil Water Notice

To All Madison Food Service Establishments

CT Water has issued a boil water notice affecting Madison. Please note: positive samples were limited to the Essex area. All samples in our portion of the system have shown no detections, and this notice is a regulatory precaution.

Effective immediately, all food service establishments must follow boil water precautions: boil all water used for drinking, food preparation, ice, washing produce, and the final rinse for warewashing (or use bottled/commercially packaged water). Ice machines, soda fountains, and spray misters connected to the water supply must also follow precautions.

If your establishment cannot feasibly operate under these precautions, you must voluntarily close until the notice is lifted. We anticipate sample results late tomorrow afternoon.

---

Do not drink your tap water without boiling it first.

This is a message from The Connecticut Water Company for customers served by our Chester System (PWSID # CT0261031) in Deep River, Essex and Chester and our Guilford Water System (PWSID # CT0608011) in Old Saybrook, Westbrook, Clinton, Madison and Guilford.

We have detected E. coli, a harmful bacteria, during routine testing at one sample point in Essex and have issued a mandatory boil water order.

The bacteria can potentially make you ill. They may pose a special health risk for infants, young children, some of the elderly, and people with severely compromised immune systems.

Until further notice, you should bring your tap water to a boil for one minute, and then let it cool before drinking it, using it in food preparation, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes.

We have consulted with the Connecticut Department of Public Health and are doing additional sampling at numerous locations in our delivery system. We expect results from those tests in 24 hours.

A copy of this notice and all further updates is also available here: https://www.ctwater.com/contact-help-center/service-alerts/
