A Happier Life NOW
A conversation with Susan Stout, CEOLD
What if thinking about mortality opens up a happier life now?

“It might seem odd to talk about death & dying at a Happiness Club, but some of the happiest and most fulfilled people I meet are those who make peace with the understanding that life is finite. What if we took a breath, took a leap, and re-imagined end of life as moments of celebration instead of only mourning? Yes, there is always sadness; the price of love is grief. But what if accepting our mortality can actually lead to a richer life now? Can meaning, gratitude, and connection help balance loss? I’d love to have this conversation with you!”
-Susan Stout

Susan Stout is a certified End-of-life Doula, Speaker, and Educator living in Stamford, CT. When she first told her family and friends that she felt called to work in this area, everyone said, "Yup, of course that's what you will be doing." That felt like a good first step, and what she discovered is that death work is also life work. Being aware of our mortality can be an incredible way to connect with a beautiful, unpredictable, and often challenging life.
And how we leave this life means everything to those we leave behind.
How we do that leaving, well, that's what all the planning and conversations are for- so it is as peaceful, meaningful, and graceful as possible.
Because we all deserve that ease.

Bring your family, bring your friends, bring your neighbors!
We are looking forward to seeing you soon!

From Head to Body:A Practical Way Back to Aliveness with guest speaker, Kevin M. Johnson

Kevin is a university professor, embodied listening guide, and co-host of the contemplative podcast Encountering Silence. His work helps thoughtful adults reconnect with the body’s quiet intelligence in a culture that often rewards living “from the neck up.
Many of us live highly thoughtful, capable lives — yet still feel subtly disconnected, stressed, or “stuck in our heads.” In this experiential talk, Kevin M. Johnson explores why insight alone rarely leads to lasting well-being, and how reconnecting with the body’s natural intelligence can restore clarity, presence, and a deeper sense of aliveness.
Drawing on contemplative practice, psychology, and embodied awareness, Kevin offers a gentle, practical framework for understanding the body not as something to manage or fix, but as a source of guidance and regulation. The session includes a short, accessible guided experience and concrete ways to integrate this kind of listening into everyday life.
This talk is suitable for both secular and spiritually curious audiences and requires no prior experience with meditation or somatic practices.

Bring your family, bring your friends, bring your neighbors!
We are looking forward to seeing you soon!

Hello Happiness Community! đź’›
Many thanks to our recent November guest speaker, Jim Rinere, for his insights about Self-Connection.

When we connect with ourselves, the path forward becomes clear, and we learn that Life’s magic is in the smallest of moments. It’s not in the big things we think we should chase.

Looking forward to seeing everyone in December for our annual candlelight mindfulness meditation and community gathering on MONDAY, December 15 at 7 PM hosted by your Happiness Club coordinators, Kerry Graham Shay, MA LPC and Mara Dowler
Stay tuned for more information!
