Wisconsin’s race for attorney general is focusing on the state’s crime lab in its closing weeks. Republican challenger Eric Toney is out with a new ad, featuring several Wisconsin sheriffs, that hammers Democrat Attorney General Josh Kaul.

"Josh Kaul promised to fix the crime lab's backlog; instead, average DNA testing times are up 60%," Waukesha County Sheriff Eric Severson said in the ad.

ICYMI: The John K. MacIver Institute for Public Policy filed a friend-of-the-court brief in the U.S. Supreme Court urging the justices to take up Eastman v. State Bar of California and reaffirm that a state should not be able to strip a lawyer of his license by finding he violated a federal law when he engaged in certain actions in a federal tribunal.

Democratic candidate for Wisconsin Secretary of State JoCasta Zamarripa recently stated that her top priority is for the next governor to sign legislation granting driver’s licenses to “undocumented Wisconsinites,” expressing confidence that Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley would do so if elected.

This proposal, long advocated by Zamarripa during her time in the state Assembly, would reverse Wisconsin’s current requirement that applicants prove lawful presence in the United States. Wisconsin does not currently issue standard driver’s licenses or state IDs to people without legal immigration status.

Some late ballots will be counted in Wisconsin this fall. A Dane County judge on Wednesday said ballots that arrive after 8p.m. on Election Day will be counted as long as the voter is not to blame for the ballot arriving late.

The judge's ruling comes after 23 people in Madison didn't have their ballots counted back in April.
