Healthy Food For All Dane County Healthy Food for All collects local produce from area farms and surplus prepared food from local catering and retail operations.

We distribute this high quality but highly perishable food to pantries, meal sites and directly into low income neighborhoods. Healthy Food for All is a community based, grassroots food recovery project working to ensure all Dane County children and families can access affordable, healthy and culturally appropriate food to achieve better health outcomes and a higher quality of life. We specialize in the collection of bulk packaged prepared food and local farm produce. By diverting potential waste from the landfill or compost pile we are helping to solve Dane County's food insecurity issues while helping to keep food out of our local landfill. We function both as a network of existing community organizations and also as a membership organization for activists interested in the work. Collaboration with a broad set of community partners is the basis of our work and will only grow in importance as the project scales up. The immense need we face requires the participation of all people of good will who are willing to do their part to fight hunger while helping our environment.. In that spirit, HFFA also seeks to be a home for volunteers and activists with a special interest in this area of work. Many County residents are keenly aware of these issues and just as keen to help but need a way to plug into the movement. We are organizing and mobilizing residents across the County to build the movement to ensure Healthy Food For All!

Healthy Food For All of Dane County organizes a lot of community meals and we really want to stop using wasteful and expensive disposable or plastic service ware. We’re starting a Surplus Plate and Fork Drive to stock locations we serve with enough plates, cups, flatware and other gear that we don't have to waste resources on disposables ever again.

Many of the neighbors we serve in complexes like The Meadowlands and neighborhoods like Darbo-Worthington don't have all the kitchen basics they need. Especially with the holidays coming, there are many folks who sure could use some extra cooking and serving gear.

If enough neighbors have stuff they can share, we also plan to deliver donations directly to families starting with The Meadowlands on the far Eastside. We want every family there to have the basics and replace any plastic or disposables they rely on also.

Whether or not you have stuff to share, please just take another moment to look at the light in the eyes and the smiles of your neighbors at the complex. Despite all the dark clouds on the horizon, know that here in Madison we're already on the path to a brighter future.

More details on how to support our Surplus Plate and Fork Drive are below. Thanks in advance for your time and consideration!

We glean surplus food at locations across the County so we’re happy to pick up kitchenware donations also. We can help pack stuff up, or even haul it out of the basement, if that makes it easier for you. Just email me directly at [email protected] or leave me a message at 608.332.1493 to arrange a pick up.

If you live downtown, or on the near Eastside, you can drop off anything you have to share anytime right on my front porch at 709 S. Dickinson. You can also take donations directly to The Meadowlands Apartments, 6834 Milwaukee Street, during regular business hours if you’re out that way.

Just like Goodwill and St. Vinny’s, HFFA has non-profit status so we’re happy to give you a receipt for the value of your donation for tax purposes. This is not just a fundraising gimmick but we do gratefully accept cash donations on GoFundMe to cover gas costs, buy food for meals and thrift other bits neighbors might need.

Find real joy, more meaning and true purpose in life by getting involved in community meals and campaigns helping neighbors like these. Email or text if you want to be on the new Friends group list and help build a more just and sustainable food system!
