Rainy season is just around the corner, and LFIA is helping our neighbors prepare! Join us for a FREE Sandbag Giveaway to help protect your home ahead of the winter rains.

🚗 How it works: Simply drive up to the yard, just inside the park entrance on Commonwealth Avenue. We’ll provide the sand, bags, shovels, and gloves. LFIA volunteers will also be on hand to help load your vehicle!

🏡 Limit: 10 sandbags per household

A special thank you to our community partners, The Dukes of Hollywood for donating the sandbags, and the LA City Recreation & Parks for providing the location and support.

🎃👻 Give a Costume, Share the Halloween Magic! ✨

Have Halloween costumes your little ones have outgrown? Give them a second life and help make Halloween a little more magical for local families!

The Los Feliz Improvement Association is collecting gently used Halloween costumes for children of all ages (infants through 17), along with fun accessories like hats, masks, and glasses.

All donations will benefit families at a local shelter, helping children and adults celebrate Halloween in costume! 🦇

Happy Leif Erikson Day! 🇳🇴

Did you know that Los Feliz has its very own connection to the legendary Norse explorer believed to have reached North America nearly 500 years before Christopher Columbus?

On October 9, 1936, a bronze bust of Leif Erikson was unveiled in Griffith Park. Created by sculptor Nina Saemundsson and gifted to the City of Los Angeles by the Nordic League, the monument offers an unusual portrayal of the Viking explorer: youthful, unadorned, and perhaps as he appeared before his historic voyage more than 1,000 years ago.

Today, we’re taking a little trip down memory lane with archival photographs and newspaper clippings celebrating the monument’s unveiling 90 years ago!

As we commemorate this milestone, LFIA is proud to continue preserving the historical treasures woven into our community. In the coming months, both the Leif Erikson bust and the Berlin Bear will undergo cleaning and conservation.

From its unveiling in 1936 to decades of community gatherings, the Leif Erikson monument remains a wonderful reminder of the rich history and hidden treasures tucked away in Los Feliz!

A LOS FELIZ LANDMARK TURNS 100 🎉

For a century, the Shakespeare Bridge has connected our neighborhoods, welcomed us home, and become one of the most recognizable landmarks in our corner of Los Angeles.

On Saturday, October 10, our neighbors Franklin Hills Residents Association (FHRA) are celebrating the bridge’s 100th birthday with a community parade and free block party beneath the bridge — and everyone is invited!

It takes a neighborhood (or a few!) to bring a celebration like this to life. Volunteers are needed, and community donations will help support the festivities.

Come celebrate this beloved piece of Los Feliz history and 100 years of connecting our communities. ❤️

It is with great sadness that the Los Feliz Improvement Association shares the passing of Tony Fanara, the beloved owner of Palermo Italian Restaurant and a true pillar of the Los Feliz community.

For decades, Tony welcomed neighbors through the doors of Palermo’s with warmth, generosity, and genuine kindness. Beyond the restaurant, he was an unwavering supporter of our community, always ready to lend a hand. Whether donating meals to our local fire stations, supporting neighborhood events, or quietly giving back in countless ways, Tony embodied the spirit of Los Feliz.

Palermo’s has long been more than a restaurant. It has been a gathering place where friendships were formed, milestones were celebrated, and generations of Angelenos felt at home. Through Tony’s generosity, hospitality, and steadfast commitment to our neighborhood, he helped shape the character and heart of Los Feliz.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Fanara family, the entire Palermo’s team, and all who knew and loved Tony. His kindness, generosity, and enduring commitment to this community will not be forgotten.

We are deeply grateful for Tony’s years of friendship, generosity, and dedication to our neighborhood. His legacy will always be a part of Los Feliz.

🌳 If you’ve driven through Griffith Park recently, you’ve probably noticed some changes.

New bike lanes, safer crossings, improved signage, and other traffic-calming improvements are now in place along Crystal Springs Drive, helping make Griffith Park safer and more enjoyable for everyone who visits.

Last week, community advocates, city leaders, and neighborhood organizations gathered to mark the completion of new safety improvements along Crystal Springs Drive.

The event featured remarks from a number of project supporters, including our very own LFIA Vice President Amy Gustincic, who reflected on the importance of preserving the magic of Griffith Park while creating a safer experience for the people who visit it every day.

One message echoed throughout the celebration: slower speeds save lives.

We’re grateful to everyone whose vision, partnership, and advocacy helped bring these improvements to life and look forward to seeing their impact for years to come. Special thanks to for featuring the project and for use of the cover image featured at the beginning of this video.
