CITYstage is in the final weeks of our crowdfunding campaign, and nearly halfway to our goal -- with over 60 NEW donors! We are tremendously grateful for your support and partnership.

Summer Camp ... and Beyond!

We are deep into the transition phase between our gloriously successful Summer Camp 2017 and the start of the fall school semester. This is our time for following up with youth and families, and building deeper relationships with school and community center site partners. And we continue to rely on the support and encouragement of our CITYstage family.
.. and Beyond! We are strategizing for greater impact in schools and communities.
.. and Beyond! We are reaching out to new partners and new sources of support.
.. and Beyond! We are deepening and fine-tuning our methodology and curriculum, and raising the bar for CITYstage programs higher than ever.

Beautiful good morning to our CITYstage community!

We are busily following up on Summer Camp 2017 -- which was an incredible success. The most amazing, devoted, collaborative and passionate group of youth you can imagine. These young people from al over LA created and shared incredibly powerful dance, spoken word, vocal, clowning, drumming, guitar, stand-up, and every kind of creative expression at the highest possible level. Astonishing accomplishment!

Thank you to the over 70 family and community members who attended The Friday showcase performance. We will be posting tons of photos and videos to share it with those who were unable to attend. You missed something really special!

And special thank you and awe to everyone in our Summer Camp team who helped make it happen: Gwen, Allyse, Jocelyn, Kiara, Clarice, Biniam, Susanna, Mia, Ernie, Zach, April, Hannah, Shofu, and Ioannis!

And of course, in all our hearts: thank you to Emili Danz for setting CITYstage on this path!

Wow! We can't believe that tomorrow is the final day of camp. We have certainly experienced many beautiful moments this week.

We know you are all dying to see what these kids have been up to. Here is a little video of some of our students sharing about their experiences.

Teaching Artist Highlight!

We'd like to introduce you to Biniam Bizuneh! He is our incredible storytelling teaching artist.

"Vulnerability is the heart of all good stories." say's Binium.

Too often, we find kids putting up these walls. Through the art of storytelling, Binium encourages students to break down those walls and allow their true selves to shine and be heard.

Teaching Artist Highlight!

Clarice Catilho is our wonderful African Drumming Instructor.

Many of the students expressed that before camp, they never really had an interest in African percussion, but with the guidance of Clarice, they have discovered a newfound talent. Also, who doesn't love hearing the lively beat of the drums!?

While it may seem like all these kids do is clown around, don't underestimate their organizational skills and determination to make things happen. They've taken it upon themselves to organize a dance battle to take place on the final day of camp!

While there are so many classes jam packed into our 2 week camp, the kids always manage to take advantage of lunch time to hang out with their new friends. It's hard to believe most of these students have only known each other for less than a week!

The big day is almost here. As we end the weekend and jump into our final week of camp, be sure to mark your calendar so that you can join us for the final showcase happening Friday afternoon.
