Are comics mightier than the sword? Prism Comics will present a panel at Los Angeles Comic Con exploring “LGBTQIA+ Social Commentary in Comics and Popular Culture” – Sunday, November 1, 12 – 1 pm, Los Angeles Convention Center, Room 404AB:

LGBTQIA+ comics creators bring their own perspectives to their work, and the impact of q***r culture on comics and popular culture is undeniable. However, it can be very difficult to be LGBTQIA+ in the current political climate. In the face of discrimination and censure, q***r creators use comics and pop media to comment on current events, challenge public figures, and advocate for diversity and equity in works across many genres from sci-fi to humor to biography. Join Prism Comics, moderator Tara Madison Avery (Stacked Deck Press, We're Still Here), and panelists David Reddish (The David Reddish Show, S*x, Drugs, and Superheroes), Viktor Kerney (We Belong, Hearse), Josh Trujillo (Blue Beetle, Washington's Gay General), Ezra Feliciano (Libertad), and Sonya Saturday (The Greatest Thing You've Ever Seen in Your Life, J.K. Rowling and the Ungrateful Fans) for a lively discussion of q***r social activism in comics and pop culture.

Thank you to the readers who came to our first ever Prism Comics Rainbow Book Club gathering at in North Hollywood. Many others signed up, and we look forward to seeing you at future meetings. Thank you also to Emma Schulman who's coordinating the Book Club and to Moby's Tea and Coffee Company who is hosting us. Our first book is Alison Bechdel's "Fun Home". Our next meeting is Sunday, November 8, 2026 at 2 pm.

Coming up this Sunday, October 11 in Los Angeles - the first meeting of the new Prism Comics Rainbow Book Club - 2 to 4 pm at Moby's Coffee and Tea Company, 10513 Burbank Blvd., North Hollywood. We’ll pick the first month’s book to read and celebrate q***r Halloween. Award-winning cartoonist and publisher, Stacked Deck Press, will join us by zoom to talk about q***r horror and Stacked Deck Press new anthology "Four Seasons of Fear". Projects we like – with q***r voices in comics being banned and diverse communities being persecuted, we need to speak out now more than ever. Q***r trans comics creator Ezra Feliciano has created LIBERTAD, a comic based on the fear and impact ICE had on him, his family and his community. There are 2 days left to join his Kickstarter and get the first issue of his important story. The link is in the comments. Ezra will also be tabling at Los Angeles Comic Con October 30 – November 1.

Ezra writes: I’m an Afro-Latino trans man. I wrote and created the comic series Libertad, and Issue #1 is now available on Kickstarter! Libertad was created from growing up with the fear of ICE constantly attached to my family and community like a shadow. Even when you can’t see it, you know it’s there. I created Libertad because growing up, I needed a hero I could look up to the same way people look up to Spider-Man.

Libertad is inspired by All Might from My Hero Academia. All Might was the Symbol of Peace, and Libertad is the Symbol of Freedom. I made sure Libertad had Bantu knots because they’re a protective hairstyle, and she is a protector of freedom. Issue #1 is only the beginning, and I can’t wait to dive deeper into the world of Libertad and show you her human side.

Being a q***r creator, especially in this political climate, has been beyond scary. But I know representation matters, and I don’t see enough Black and Brown trans men in comics. I am here. My voice matters. My existence and my freedom to create will never be silenced by the fear others try to evoke.
